HOT Questions for English

HOT Questions for English

A range of Higher Order Thinking questions that can be used as an extension activity in English. They will need to be cut out and laminated. I store mine in a folder stapled to a wall in a classroom. Children have free choice in the one they choose, but I have sorted mine in lower-middle-higher questions after printing. The desired outcome is to challenge children's curiosity and higher thinking skills. In a mixed ability setting, these are useful for the higher students when they are finished their work.

SPaG Around The World

SPaG Around The World

A 32 card game that will test SPaG terminology of pupils. The words in red (difficult), orange (medium) and green (easiest), are the answer to the description in black font. You can start at any place and the game will finish in the exact same SPaG spot. All cards must be played- some pupils may have to have 2 if you use with smaller classes. A great way to create competition when timed.

Blood Brothers Mid-ability MODEL ANSWER AQA Literature

Blood Brothers Mid-ability MODEL ANSWER AQA Literature

The answer includes: subject terminology, links to context and evidence from the text. Pupils could highlight all three to think about how things link up. Do feel free to edit this to make it a more sophisticated piece for higher-ability, or edit to make it easier for a SEN class who will, ultimately, sit the same exam.

LOTF Conch Model Essay.

LOTF Conch Model Essay.

My Year 11 class screamed/cried/complained that there was nothing in chapter 1 of Lord of The Flies about the conch. I have created a model answer using ambitious vocabulary and the PEE format to construct a response about the symbolism of the conch in 'Sound of the Shell'. There are some perceptive points to engage the higher-ability student and these could be used as starter activities to promote debate.

Back To School Subject Review

Enables teachers to get to know their kids on the first lesson back. Can change subject to suit your own preference. I firmly believe in knowing how children feel in order to make progress and hope this will help build relationships quickly by adding my own comments after they've filled in the sheet.
