My Year 11 class screamed/cried/complained that there was nothing in chapter 1 of Lord of The Flies about the conch. I have created a model answer using ambitious vocabulary and the PEE format to construct a response about the symbolism of the conch in 'Sound of the Shell'. There are some perceptive points to engage the higher-ability student and these could be used as starter activities to promote debate.
