History of the Atom, Atomic Structure and Electron Arrangement

No prep lesson. Teach students the history of the atom then send them on a fact-finding mission around your classroom to learn atomic structure. After this they’ll learn electron structure and undertake a number of plenary tasks After a brief history of the atom students are given a worksheet and are tasked with finding information on posters that are to be placed around the classroom. After this they undertake part 2 of the lesson and learn about electron arrangement and how to draw Bohr models for the first 18 element. Turn your classroom into different environments and let your pupils discover the animals that live there and their adaptations One of my favourite lessons with pupils engaged and learning from the first minute. I've taught this many times and each time it's been a success. PPT includes pupil discussion exercises on 'what is an environment, habitat and adaptation?' along with an activity whereby you can transform your classroom into different habitats. Group the animal fact cards into Ocean, Desert, Rainforest and Arctic and place these onto different tables. Pupils then go around the classroom investigating the habitat, the organisms that live there and their adaptations filling in their worksheet as they go. Atoms & the Periodic Table: Quiz, Quiz, Trade

Quiz, Quiz, Trade activity to get pupils up and engaging with each other whilst revising atoms and the Periodic Table. I've used this and previous versions dozens of times over the years and it's always been received positively. Includes 30 question Quiz, Quiz, Trade activity for student aged 14-16 or high ability 11-14 Topics: Subatomic particles Periodic Table Electron arrangement Isotopes Mass number RAM I play this for about 10-15 minutes until the students have answered all the questions. Or I get them to select three songs on youtube and they play for the length of these songs (probably best to know the songs yourself to watch for bad language!).
