Hogwarts' Magnets and Electromagnets Revision

I designed this as a wall quiz revision lesson for a topic. Pin the problems that the professors are having and the associated questions to the wall around the room. Use the hinge questions as a bell task. The results of this determine which house the pupils are put in. The pupils travel around the room answering questions at their level. Once they have checked their answers, they level up to the next house. The book of magic provides support for the pupils and allows them to work independently. Once they have competed the task there is an exam question plenary. More of these could be added depending on the final house the pupils arrive at.

Stick the questions around the room, along with images of places around your town. The pupils have a record card to write the question and the answers. I use a QR code generator to turn the possible answers into QR codes. Reading these with iPads adds further interest. Once the activity is complete, the hinge question leads to a differentiated plenary.

I designed this as a wall quiz revision lesson for a topic. Introduce the lesson with the video and the associated images. You can also greet the pupils wearing hazard equipment to set the scene. Pin the images and the associated questions to the wall around the room. The pupils travel around the room answering questions. They use iPads to read the QR codes (or the answers can be printed out if IT is not available. Once they have checked their answers go on to the next problem. The cheat sheets provide support for the pupils as they travel around the class. The plenary is to complete the properties of the three types of nuclear radiation.

Contained in the document is a link to 2 self-marking quizzes for Google Classroom. I use these with YouTube videos for flipped learning homework tasks, but they could be easily used as a starter in a lesson. Once shared with pupils they not only self-mark, but with the addition of Flubaroo, the associated spreadsheet records the responses in one place. Please find the links for the KS3 biology Variation quizzes on the second page of the document. The link opens the Google folder containing the quizzes. Select the quizzes and copy them to your Google Drive. To edit and enable the self-marking spreadsheet you need to make your own copy of the quizzes, which then become editable.

Use the hinge question as a bell task to place pupils into a Hogwarts’ house. The pupils use the travel cards to record their answers to the leveled questions for each house. Once they have checked their answers are correct, they level up to the next house. There are support materials attached to help pupils work independently. I add exam questions to this lessons for the plenary.

Use the hinge question as a starter to put pupils into Avenger groups. The pupils go round the room with their answer sheet to solve the problems. The problems need to be matched up with the locations around the town. Pupils mark their own answers using the answer page and then level up to the next Avenger group.
