Dulce et Decorum est

Dulce et Decorum est

(0)
A full lesson on Dulce et Decorum est which focuses on the language used to show the horror of war. The lesson begins with students being asked to come up with a question based on an image. They then work through the lesson, following one of three differentiated pathways (this could be individually or in ability groups). This leads to an analytical writing task and an eventual attempt to answer the question that they started the lesson devising. As with all of my lessons, this has been used by me and my department - it was graded as a 1 in my recent PM observation. It has been tweaked following its usage and contains notes on the bottom of the slides to encourage teacher questioning. Included: Full PPT (attractively presented) Three-way differentiated starter Three-way differentiated writing task Three-way differentiated peer-assessment checklists Please leave me a review if you find this lesson as useful as I hope you will (or if you don't!) I always act upon my feedback to make my lessons the very best they can be!
Animal Farm Fully Resourced Scheme

Animal Farm Fully Resourced Scheme

(0)
A 6 week, fully resourced scheme of work on Animal Farm. Would be suitable for Year 7 or Year 8 pupils - easily differentitated up for Year 9. The scheme starts by building key skills such as inference and writer’s intention, before moving on to some context and the novella itself. Detailed PPTs begin with a ‘do now’ activity (all questions based on core knowledge and vocabulary rather than plot) as well as introducing a tier-2 key word which is relevant to the lesson. There are a range of activities, differentiated (structure strips and differentiated resources included) and every lesson ends with an exit ticket.

Planning grid included along with a model paragraph and extended writing opportunity. This lesson could easily be adapted to compare two different poems - please see this lesson as part of my power and conflict bundle if you would like the lessons leading up to this one rather than using it as a stand-alone.

Romeo and Juliet - The Balcony Scene

(5)
This is a lesson that I taught to a top set year 9 class and was rated outstanding. It could easily be used for Y11 as it is very challenging! The lesson focuses on Romeo's soliloquy and introduces students to astrological theories in order to analyse language more fully. They are encouraged to make links to the rest of the play throughout. The lesson is differentiated by splitting students into pathways for the main activity and providing a modern translation of the soliloquy. There are also notes for teachers to suggest routes of questioning to encourage students to extend their thinking. If you like the look of this lesson, please see the 22 lesson scheme it is taken from - a bargain at £16.
