A lesson looking at tension in the trial scene (chapter 68) of Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman. Intended for HA year 8 but can be adapted. This gets pupils to consider how the writer uses language and structure to create tension and then write their own responses using PEZEAL/PEU/PEE. Sentence starters are included.
Writing to argue - childhood obesity. This was originally an assessment for Year 8 Mid-ability, however it can be used as a writing challenge. Pupils should be writing for the majority of the lesson; in terms of marking, you could either get them to peer assess next lesson or mark it yourself.
