* 24 Task Cards (4 per sheet size) * Answer Document (blank) * Answer Document (with multiple choice answers) which can be used as a stand alone worksheet * Answer Key If you viewing this product, then you probably already know of the usefulness and versatility of task cards. They work great for centers, partner activities, and general review. Kids love them because they can move around and work at their own pace, too. This set of 24 task cards is unique because it has a coded message answer document that allows you to check the student’s work very quickly. Kids love the jokes, too. Students just use their answer to match the code letter with the solution in the coded joke at the bottom. Included are two answer documents. One has the code letters and one does not. If you’d like to use this just like a worksheet, then use the one with the code letters. If you’d like to use it as a task card set, then copy the sheet with the blanks and have students record their code letters from the task cards as they complete each problem. Enjoy!

If you are viewing this product, then you probably already know of the usefulness and versatility of task cards. They work great for centers, partner activities, and general review. Kids love them because they can move around and work at their own pace, too. I designed this set of 16 task cards with various examples of multiplication as repeated addition. Students should find the matching multiplication problem on the answer key and place the code letter on the repeated addition card in the square. Students should also work the multiplication problem. This task card set is unique because it has a coded message answer document that allows you to check the student’s work very quickly! I created this like the 4 x 4 crossword puzzles that I love in USA Today. As students answer each problem, the answer to the clue is revealed in by eight four-letter words spelled horizontally and vertically. Enjoy!

Fractions with Color Tiles - 4.NF.1 Equivalent Fractions Using Visual Models

(0)
This packet offers students an opportunity to practice making equivalent fractions in a fun, hands-on activity. For the activity you will need a variety of red, blue, green, and yellow color tiles for each student or for each partner group. Students use color tiles to build rectangles of various sizes. I like to have the students work in partners for this activity, but it could be completed independently, as homework, or as a station activity as well. Each rectangle that students build with color tiles has a space for them to figure the equivalent fraction needed for that rectangle. Once students build the rectangle successfully, they can then color their paper to show their answer. Each question gets a little harder than the pervious one in order to differentiate for your top students. Answer key is included!

Explain why the fractions are equivalent, e.g., by using a visual fraction model. 4.NF.A.1 - Explain why a fraction a/b is equivalent to a fraction (n × a)/(n × b) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Need a way to spice up a place value lesson with your students? This is a fun activity that I have used for years to make teaching a kind of boring topic fun. The kids will gasp and giggle with delight the first time they reveal the answers to the code words and messages. My kids liked them so much they asked me to make a second page of them! I hope your students enjoy them, too. How to use: Have students answer the expanded form equation in standard form. Then they type the digits of the answer in a calculator and turn it upside down. If done correctly, the digits should make a word or phrase. For example: 30,000 + 5,000 + 6 = 35,006 On a calculator upside down = goose

I Have… Who has… cards are a fun, and effective way to quickly review a concept with your class. They also encourage teamwork and active listening skills. It works great as a station activity, small group work, or as a whole class activity. This set reviews using variables in expressions with all four operations. It also helps students relate words like: more, product, sum, increase, decrease, difference, quotient, etc... to their matching operation. Here's how to play. First, shuffle out the 30 cards to the group. You can do this as a whole class activity or make several sets and do them in smaller groups. I love to give each group a timer so they can “race” each other to get the fastest time. I record the fastest times on the board. It’s amazing how motivating something as simple as this can be! Enjoy! -Shane
