'nk' phonic consolidation activity

'nk' phonic consolidation activity

After introducing the 'nk' digraph, this activity sheet has some opportunities for reinforcement, as well as a section on alphabetical order. The final section is an opportunity for the children to work on sentence work. This is an editable resource which you may choose to differentiate for different ability levels.

George and the Dragon Illustration and Writing Activity

George and the Dragon Illustration and Writing Activity

This a simple version of the story of Saint George and the Dragon. I designed this activity to be used by Key Stage 1 children, therefore the language is not too complex. This could easily be used by less able children on KS2. This document has the story written in order for the children to read, and boxes for them to create appropriate illustrations in as they read it. At the end, there is space for the children to give the story a proper ending; this is a great opportunity for them to stretch their imaginations and really get in to creative writing- without them having to write a whole story. This is a very old story and so no one really knows what happened in the end, this really frees the children up to a whole host of ideas. I used this to great success with my Year 2 class during our Myths and Legends topic.

'ow' consolidation activity

'ow' consolidation activity

After introducing the digraph 'ow' as in owl, this is a nice way to get the children thinking about which words they will regularly use this for. Section 1 is a finding the word activity, followed by a chance for children to make up their own sentences.

KS1 Open Ended Maths Starter- Winter Theme

KS1 Open Ended Maths Starter- Winter Theme

This is an open ended and easy to differentiate starter activity. The children are required to use their knowledge of repeated addition and/or multiplication to solve the problems. More able children can make the activity very open ended either independently or with support, less able children may only manage the first part of the activity and could use concrete resources to help them. I used this with a mixed ability Year 2 class to consolidate word problem skills however this could be used in a range of maths settings.

Magic 'e' consolidation activity KS1

Magic 'e' consolidation activity KS1

This resource should be used after all of the magic e spelling patterns have been taught. Children should have been exposed to the short and long vowel sounds frequently. This activity will show whether children understand how the magic 'e' spelling pattern is used. The follow up part of the activity asks children to form sentences with the words they have found. Less able children may only manage the first activity. More able children could be asked to make up their own nonsense magic 'e' words- some of my Year 2 children really enjoyed this!

Winter Holiday Writing Frame

Winter Holiday Writing Frame

A very simple writing frame for children to write about what they did in their winter holiday break. I find this really useful as an activity for after the winter break. There is no focus on religion or festivals and instead asks the children to reflect on what they did personally in their holiday time.

Key Word Cards for Islands

Key Word Cards for Islands

These are word and picture cards which would be great on wall displays or to use as table prompts when children are writing. I used these when exploring the Katie Morag stories with my class.
