Who W Are Design A T Shirt Back to School Activity

(0)
Getting to know your students with this self reflection activity is a win-win, as you encourage them to think critically about the questions in each section of their t shirt. Their thinking is recorded with drawings rather than simply written answers. The back of the t-shirt focuses specifically on Learner Profile and requires a written answer. Throw in some arts and crafts to create the head and shoulders as a self portrait and the final product is a beautifully colourful product that allows everyone to learn a bit more about one another. These look fabulous hanging from the ceiling for back to school night. UK & USA spelling included. With options for more traditional ‘getting-to-know-you” questions as well as the IB PYP transdisciplinary themes, the children have to think about what each theme means to them or how they can answer the questions, illustrating their thinking within the shape on the t shirt, which requires a bit more thought and planning. The back of the t shirt brings the vocabulary of the Learner Profile into review and requires the children to really reflect on themselves as learners. Easy to print and construct, the kids absolutely love this activity which is perfect for back to school, student led conferences and a fun reflection activity. A Complete Unit of Inquiry The French Revolution IB PYP

Take the children back in time to 1700s France with this complete IB PYP unit of inquiry. Over 80 pages of web quests, reading for information, inquiry based math projects, hands on writing, art, drama and much more; Where We Are in Place and Time: What have we learned from the past and how has history influenced society today? By delving back in time the children can explore the concept of time and unrest and how the two big ideas have brought about change in our world, for the better or not. I have taught this unit of inquiry with my 5th grade. Each time, I find that it is one of my favourites. There is so much to explore. It can easily be adapted for 3rd-6th grades, although the math is geared for 4th-6th grades/IB Phase 4. With over 100 pages of interactive, hands on , engaging, inquiry based activities, this transdisciplinary unit will take you through math, critical thinking, writing, geography, reading for information and, of course, history. UK & USA spelling. Our lines of inquiry: Comparing the perspectives of the time period & people of the French Revolution. What were the causes of the French Revolution? How developments from the revolution brought about change in the French communities and society. Comparing violent and non violent revolutionary tactics. Implications for the modern world. As we travelled through time with our interactive timeline, we travelled back across the Atlantic ocean, exploring the French Revolution . The inquiries came flooding fast and furiously as we learned more and more about how people were affected by revolt ,through hands on research, various artefacts , communication and much ,much more. The unit culminates in a summative assessment where the children prepare their own wax museum character of a revolutionary. Learning how to read clues from artefacts and also from evidence in the text, helped us to become incredible historians as we had to figure out the answers to our lines of inquiry. This involved a lot of reading for information, analysing text and recognising non fiction text features. Through explorations within math, reading, writing, geography, history and art, the children gather knowledge of how revolutionaries brought about change to their world and contributed to societies today. If you enjoy this complete unit of inquiry, you may also like my others: Ancient Civilizations, Rainforests and Food Chains, Adaptations of Living Things, Exploring Poetry, Exploring Explorers , the Ocean, the American Revolution and many more found in my store and on my bl

Fun ways to encourage reflection and goal setting. Reflection can be a tricky concept to genuinely learn. Often it becomes filling out the “usual” things and is not really meaningful for the student. It aims to help them reflect upon their success as well as their challenges and to really think about how they could help themselves. This packet is designed to assist children with those questions and the reflection process. You will find a collection of 12 reflection templates one of which is a flip flap book. Use them with: End of unit reflections Portfolios Goal setting for any curricular area Reflection of Learner Profile, IB Attitudes and Skills used. Create Your Own IB PYP Learner Profile Posters Watercolour Digital Edition

These beautiful watercolour posters are all ready for you to have the children think critically about the descriptors of the IB PYP Learner Profile and then add their own text digitally, before printing them. I like to have the children work on the descriptors collaboratively, in small groups – each researching the definitions, critically evaluating the best way to summarise them and finally creating their own. It is a great way to reinforce an awareness of our Learner Profile as the children learn what it means to possess those attributes of a learner and be an active part of the creation of the posters. They’re then a beautiful reference to be used in your classroom all year long. These contain all of the IB Learner Profile attributes for both the PYP and the MYP, including options of risk taker/courageous and thinker/global thinker. In addition, there are printable versions that can be used for writing the descriptors for each attribute, if that is your preference. You can find that edition by clicking right here. Number and Place Value Drama Circle Activity

(0)
Make number analysis fun! Number Talk is a fun version of my popular drama circles! Number Sense and Place Value is a large part of math throughout the year. This activity is a hilarious way to get the children really thinking about their knowledge of place value, prime numbers, multiples and factors using the academic language. Use it as a skills review any time of the year. These printable cards are just one of my drama circle activities that I use to practice the trans- disciplinary skills of cooperation, social and communication to name a few. This drama was designed for my 5th graders as a fun review of the speaking and listening strands and our CCSS Math standards. It can be used with 4th grade too. Each child has a number card depending on the skills that you are working on and the level that the child is within math. So easy to differentiate. They then have to listen to the inquiry cards, analyse their number and see if it fits with the inquiry. For example: If you have a number that could be a factor of 28, then you will hop around the circle as if your feet are burning! “This is developing listening and thinking skills as well as communication and presentation . Not every card requires speaking; some ask only for miming. The cards marked with stars are all decimal fractions. There are 64 number cards and 40 inquiry cards within this packet and an instruction card. The drama cards can be used with 3rd-6th grade and used within a whole class scenario or smaller groups, where the children are given several cards to read and act from. The concept of drama circles is a great ice breaker or a fun review of the IB skills and attitudes. These goal setting banners or bunting are a great way to reflect upon the upcoming year and to set goals related to the IB PYP Learner Profile. The finished result looks wonderful in your IB PYP classroom. And those goals are hanging right there, under those little noses, keeping everyone accountable.  They are easy to assemble and contain all of the traits for the Learner Profile, with options for global thinker, courageous and with UK & USA spelling. Use them to hang or to pin as a beautiful wall display at the beginning of your school year or for New Year. I designed these for lower elementary; 1st-3rd grade. There is a version for big kids too. 3rd-5th grades. Simply print, trim the bottom corners off and staple each edge down below the dotted line to ensure leaving a space to loop the string through. Then, once they are all folded over and stapled, position the banners in the order you prefer and string them together, by pulling the string through each folded area. It is a good idea to attach the string to a pencil to make it easier to “thread” the string through each pennant. You may wish to laminate the pennants before you fold them over.
