Teaching Paper 1 Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing - "Animal Farm"

This resource is based around the text: Animal Farm These resources form part of a set of support materials to help teachers to teach the Language Paper 1 and Paper 2 READING sections. The focus is on Questions 1, 2, 3 and 4 READING SKILLS. The resources comprise: • An exam paper • An exam insert • An exam mark scheme • A detailed and colourful support PowerPoint which offers model answers/suggested approaches/links to mark schemes/student answers/assessment objectives etc • Usually a peer assessment activity, or peer assessment features in the PowerPoint, linked to relevant examiner comment • Often other relevant support material – such as a student mark sheet to assist peer assessment, annotated example answers, other relevant support PowerPoints on, say, “structure” etc The resources are designed to be used AFTER the students have taken the assessment, and they form part of detailed summative feedback. They have been used successfully this year in a mainstream school at year 9, 10, and 11. Some are based on AQA specimen papers which have then had support materials built around them; others are based around more original source materials, like “Warhorse” or “1984”. Each resource will probably support 3 or 4 lessons of 1 hour duration. Students should use the resource to reflect upon how they can improve. These resources are designed to be of practical help and have received good student feedback over the last 12 months. If you find them useful please give feedback. Best of luck with these examinations! If you like the look of this GCSE PAPER 1 READING support resource you might be interested in a collection of 26 similar resources for £5. This offers 26 other complete READING lessons - just like this one - for only five pounds ! That’s enough practice for quite a few weeks! Please check out my shop for full details - just search “26” in my shop ! I also have lots of BUNDLES that cut prices from 50 - 80% - buying in bulk saves loads of money and offers great value.

2 Extra resouces added 300618 - White Fang and Pick Your Poison - Paper 1 Reading Skills practice papers and support materials ! Getting Year 9 Ready for GCSE - Foundation Term on Language Skills for GCSE This is a resource designed to get Year 9 students ready for the skills required at GCSE. We use Year 9 as a foundation year at our school and try to embed key skills so that Year 10 is not too much of a shock ! This resource runs to over 60 documents (!) and covers 6 texts, with question papers, model answers etc for each one. Introducing GCSE to Year 9 Language Paper 1 READING: This bundle introduces Year 9 to READING Skills on Paper 1. We look at 6 texts: 1984, Animal Farm, Brighton Rock, a short story by John Wyndham, Lord of the Flies, and Carrie’s War. Each text has peer assessment opportunities, model answers, mark schemes and other activities. Each SOW is summarised on a Powerpoint called “Getting Ready for Year 9” and that is the place to start. Each SOW has an end of unit test – the AQA Carrie’s War paper is suggested in this case. I’ve designed the SOW to cover a 6 week term and I intend to use it with year 9 in September 2018, interspersed with discrete SPAG and Poetry activities so that the whole 6 weeks is not completely Language related. 666, the number of the Beast Bundle! This is one of a set of Three resources designed to get Year 9 students ready for the skills required at GCSE. We use Year 9 as a foundation year at our school and try to embed key skills so that Year 10 is not too much of a shock !
