Research Methods Playing Cards

(6)
A deck of cards with questions about general RM terms and for learning about / revising a study. Give a complete deck to each group, or deal out cards to the class. The cards are editable so you can adapt the questions for your needs. Print on white card, laminate & slice. This resource was inspired by a training session led by Celia Bone during the ATP Darlington CPD Saturday earlier this year. Please let me know what you think.

Exam Command Words poster

(7)
An A3 poster to help students understand the command words used in exam questions. The boxes are colour-coded to match my Thinking Ladder display, so feel free to change them to make it a bit more colourful.

Writing a Method

The Publisher file includes a WAGOLL (what a good one looks like) and a WABOLL (what a bad one looks like) for methods on how to test a leaf for starch. I would like to point out that there are good features in the WABOLL and room for improvement in the WABOLL method. I did this to show students that even good methods aren’t perfect and poor methods still have good features too.

APFCE template

A template for students to deconstruct a research study and make notes on. Good for supporting less able students, or just when you want the students to make quick notes.

Analysing Acronyms posters

A set of 4 different A3 posters to remind students of the acronyms for analysing studies and theories. These could also be shrunk down to A4 and laminated for leaving on tables when students are more likely to use them.
Plenary Playing Cards

Plenary Playing Cards

(2)
A deck of playing cards with questions to be dealt out to students as part of a plenary or consolidate activity. I made the cards using publisher, so you can edit the questions to make them more suitable for your needs. Print them on white card, laminate, then slice them up. This resource was inspired by attending a CPD training session led by Celia Bone during the ATP Darlington CPD Saturday earlier this year. Please let me know what you think.

I produced these posters to explain the different aspects of Forensic Science for the old BTEC Applied Science course. The main titles might not look right if the font isn't recognised by your computer, so just just select a different font to suit your taste.
Quantitative Data posters

Quantitative Data posters

Some posters I produced to help students with analysing quantitative data. I do not refer to histograms in the 'Presenting Quantitative Data&' poster, although many Psychology textbooks do. This is because a Maths teacher colleague of mine was incensed by the incorrect usage of the term - she says that histograms are only for presenting frequency-distribution, or something like that. 0.o

Brain Dissection Lesson

(4)
A presentation & corresponding worksheet that I produced for a brain dissection lesson (note, it was a double lesson, 2hours). I've also included a manual for dissecting a sheep&'s brain that I found on the internet. I used preserved sheep brains from Blades Bio. The video that is missing from the powerpoint is Pinky é the Brain&';s Brainstem song - easily found on YouTube. Be sure to use the song if you have time - my students love it and Pinky é the Brain have become class mascots!

British Science Week 2018 resources

A variety of resources for BSW18. Feel free to edit as needed. The staff badges are for 18 stickers per page sheets, and are arranged in pairs (the picture & written info). I plan for staff to have the picture on the front of their lanyards with the info side stuck to the back effectively sandwiching the lanyard. Students then hunt down the info for their sheets. The poster competition powerpoint is the annual national competition. The deadline is deliberately early due to the real deadline being during out Easter break. The form powerpoint is to remind students of the key points of the assembly powerpoint. The Year 9 quiz was made by a colleague for students to win a place on a local STEM day.
Criminal Psychology

Criminal Psychology

Resources made for unit 1: Criminal Psychology in the OCR GCSE specification. I used two free downloadable fonts called Amatic SC and Caveat. If you do not install these fonts to your computer, a default standard font will be used which will change the appearance of the slides.
Literacy in Science display

Literacy in Science display

(5)
A set of posters to create a helpful display about using literacy in Science. It covers the general SPaG issues with a scientific spin, as well as how Science uses prefixes and suffixes. I made the 'Capital + Lower Case Letters&' posters as I was being driven mad by the misuse of capital letters, even by older students!

A range of lesson resources made by myself and inspired by the resources from BSA for BSW21. This lesson focuses on the diversity of scientists and students research to create case studies. I like to use non-standard fonts, so you may find that you need to download a free font.
