An imaginative project that gives children the freedom to create a thriving country, drawing on various facets of geographical knowledge and skills. Children are challenged to design their own imaginary countries. In a span of three lessons, children will be given a sheet of grid paper with which to design and draw/shade their own countries, labelling with appropriate geographic vocabulary. The second part of this project requires children to describe their country and answer challenging questions that discuss land use, economy, topography, etc. Extensions: - Use a visualiser to look at a map and discuss its pros/cons - Select 4-5 good quality maps and split children into groups to recreate a scale model of the country using chicken wire, mod roc, paint, etc. Pack includes a pupil planning sheet, notebook, question sheet and lesson outline.
