I enjoy teaching Business Studies because it is a practical subject and develops life-long skills in students.
One of my most successful Business Studies projects is Mission Based Learning [MBL], for Business Studies students. I have received excellent feedback from students, school management and even parents. I have noticed that the entire school community participates whole-heatedly in MBL projects.
With skills taught in MBL, students are able to develop practical skills in marketing, accounting and finance, presentation, business operations, human resource, social and ethical responsibility in business. Teachers can conduct this activity throughout the term and by the end of the term, students can display what they have learned by organizing a T-shirts Business Stall or a Bake Sale etc. Organizng a Christmas Bake Sale is another good idea.
With such excellent feedback, I have introduced the Young Entrepreneur Club where students collaborate with each other and even enjoy a complete Web 2.0 experience in learning Business skills.
Compatibility: Mission Based Learning, IB Creativity, Activity, Service CAS
What is MBL and why is it important for business students?
Mission-based learning (MBL) is a student-centered approach which encourages students to make meaningful connections between themselves, their communities and the global community. Students build upon prior skills and use critical-thinking, research skills, creativity, independent and collaborative work to solve authentic, relevant issues facing the modern era. Students employ diverse tools of the 21st century classroom to broadcast their solutions and positively impact the global community.
The proceeds of sales would be used to support a charity organization. This links this activity to CAS in IB schools.
I have also added my posters and documents in this package for organizing a Christmas Bake Sale and Fun Fair. These are detailed documents about what activities to conduct, and how to organize a Christmas Bake Sale.
I am sure you will enjoy this fun filled Business Studies project and introduce it in your school. I am sure your students will learn Business operations in the most interesting and creative ways possible.
