KS1 ASSEMBLY Pack - Diwali

Introduce the Indian festival of Diwali by looking at the history of the festival, together with one of its most popular stories, 'Rama and Sita'.

The lead resource is an information book on two Festivals of Lights: Diwali (Hindu) and Bandi Chhor (Sikh). Other non-fiction resources include assembly materials - slideshow images and full script - plus writing templates and a Rangoli pattern-maker.

The story of Rama and Sita explains the first Diwali and is explored through a simply-written book. Other resources help pupils sequence and retell this important Hindu tale. Vocabulary mats support pupils to write about the Diwali festival or the Rama and Sita story.

KS2 HISTORY - Black Britain (7-9)

British history is a story of constant migration and immigration. Its ever-shifting population means that Britain is made up of people of many nationalities, all of whom shape our cultural experiences.

The lead resource is an illustrated information book, at Reading Level B. (See below for a differentiated version at Level A - with audio support for younger or SEN pupils.) The book takes pupils from Roman times through to the modern day and includes comprehension questions.

We've also included profiles of significant figures in black history, with questions for comprehension and discussion. Specific creative writing tasks, based around these people or their situations, can be found at the end of the profile sheets. Why not link to Black History Month?

For older pupils, see our pack Black Britain (9-11).
