SOW on Films and Musicals aimed at Y8

SOW on Films and Musicals aimed at Y8

This is a full SOW that I use with Y8, but in the past I have used it with Y9 also. The SOW outline is uploaded here, with 3 pieces of musical theatre music, 4 pieces of film music and the two presentations on musical theatre and film music to be used for lessons 1 and 3 respectively. I have uploaded both Sibelius and PDF versions of all the pieces of music. The pieces of music are all arranged in C major, with the number of accidentals and the varying rhythms in the music giving an option of various difficulties for students to choose from. The presentations are in the form of Prezis but they have been downloaded in a format that can be opened without the software being downloaded. All that is needed is an internet connection as the presentation has YouTube clips embedded in it. I have used the presentations this term and the links were all still active and up to date. However if there is a problem when you come to open these two files please contact me and I will try to resolve it.

Hooks and Riffs: Ed Sheeran's Shape of You

Hooks and Riffs: Ed Sheeran's Shape of You

I planned this lesson to teach KS3 how to use hooks and riffs in popular song. This works well when showing how Ed Sheeran uses a loop pedal and layers short ideas to create a full song. This worksheet includes notation for the riffs, 2 additional layers (harmony and bassline) and the hook. There is also a grid of 9 tasks which students can opt for.
