#### Numeracy Curriculum 2014 Assessment of Objectives

Below are word documents with the new Curriculum 2014 objectives for each year group in the primary phase. I thought of using them by RAG rating children's understanding of the objectives featured. Use each year group objective sheet to suit the individual needs of groups of children in your class.

#### Table Splat! (Times Tables Game)

A game that can be played in pairs, threes or independently. Please note that this game focuses on times tables facts from 2 to 10 to ensure children are confident in these tables before progressing to the 11s and 12s, which will need to be taught subsequently.Children need a 'Table Splat' mat and counters (different coloured counters for each child). Children take turns to turn over a card, revealing a times tables question. The child who is the first to place their counter on the correct answer (whilst shouting 'SPLAT!') can leave their counter on the board. The winner is the player with the most counters on the board once all of the times table cards have been used.Differentiate by choosing the multiplication cards relevant for that child, depending on which times table they are currently working on. *Update: 6s and 9s have been underlined, to avoid confusion.*Save money when bought as part of a bundle. #### KS4 Probability-Rescue the princess-adventure game

Featured in the TES Newsletter. Adventure game in which students answer probability questions in order to rescue a princess. PLEASE REVIEW / COMMENT. There are 5 sections, each with 2 topics. They have 4 attempts at each topic, if they get all 4 wrong, the game ends and they will have to start again. The 5 sections are: OR and AND questions, complementary events, combined events (inc. #### Adding multiples of ten to any two digit number Game

This game is suitable for children working at expected and greater depth in numeracy framework Block A2. It supports adding multiples of ten to any given number. Children can work independently in a group during mental oral starter. The game is engaging and allows children to demonstrate their mental maths skills application. Teachers can assess using AFL how children reason their answers during playing this game. The game is suitable for year 2 children and it supports mastery maths.

RECOMMENDED by the TES panel. Adventure game in which students answer averages questions in order to progress through a haunted house. PLEASE REVIEW / COMMENT. #### Plotting coordinates using up to four quadrants!

I have created this for a year 5 top set maths group. It is differentiated 3 ways, yellow being the less able, green able and pink more able. This links in very heavily with shape as I am teaching this following 3 weeks on shape, space and measure, so it will continue to embed their knowledge of quadrilaterals, types of triangles, angles and parallel and perpendicular lines. Hope this is useful! Have included photos of what it should look like once points have been plotted, hopefully I haven't made any silly mistakes! :-)

#### Sequence Ratio Worksheet - Differentiated

This is a nice activity to introduce the idea of ratio, by using sequences. Suitable for KS2.I found it useful to use pieces of card (e.g. 1 yellow for every 2 blue) to visually demonstrate beforehand (using volunteers - each holding the correct ratio) and show how to record this into a table on the whiteboard as you go, before using this resource as the main activity. I also allowed children to use counters at their table to aid them whilst completing the worksheet, as this was very beneficial to some learners.

#### Teacher Excel Markbook

This excel spreadsheet can be used to record student's grades. Using a 1-10 system you can record their marks and it will automatically average the grade. If you enter J, K or L in capitals (which is converted into a smiley face) in the effort column it will also average their effort grade. This provides formative feedback and allows progress to be monitored. This is a concept and could easily be adapted for specific use, i.e. Assessment without levels, BTEC etc.

#### Maths investigation - Dice score

A Japanese theme game. The children play the game which leads on to - Investigating the frequency score of 2 dice. (What are the best numbers to choose to help you win the game next time?) Lessons include find the odd one out starter activities, success criteria and worksheets. There are also questions to encourage the children’s mathematical thinking. My class find it fun to make up a quick Sumo dance… where they bow to each other before and after each game.

#### Cash for questions revision activity

There are 4 sets of questions (Number, Algebra, Shape, Data) which are mainly A and A* (with some lower grade questions from topics which students struggle with, e.g. percentages, constructions). PLEASE REVIEW / COMMENT. Students work in pairs or small groups to answer the questions. When they finish a question they get it marked and if it is correct they are given cash to the value of the question. There are bank notes which you can put your school name and pictures of your teachers on. The team with the most money at the end could be given a prize.

#### KS3 Circles-Rescue the princess-adventure game

Adventure game in which students answer KS3 circle questions in order to rescue a princess. Teacher notes and answers are provided. There are 5 sections, each with 2 topics. They have 4 attempts at each topic, if they get all 4 wrong, the game ends and they will have to start again. The 5 sections are: parts of a circle, circumference, area, reverse questions: given circumference, find diameter and radius; given area, find radius and diameter. #### New 9-1 GCSE Maths Grade 8/9 target - Algebra

#### Understanding the role of the equals sign

I couldn't find any materials on this when I needed to teach my year 3 class what the equals sign REALLY meant. I have included the lesson plan I used, the 3 differentiated worksheets and a Powerpoint I made. Also have included a homework set of resource sheets (could alternatively be used in class as a reinforcement at a later date.) UPDATE: I have added a more challenging resource for year 3/4
