Algebra Worksheets: Collecting terms, expand and factorise, substitution.

This pack is filled with worksheet activities covering combining like terms, expand and factorise expressions and substitution. All worksheets are differentiated to three levels, offering supported worksheets, as well as worksheets which challenge the most able students. Answer sheets are also included for all worksheets.Term Trees introduce students to like terms, the essential knowledge needed to successfully combine like terms. Combing Terms Pyramid then puts this knowledge into practice. Geometry in Algebra goes one step further, and applies combining terms knoeledge to geometry scenarios.The final combining like terms worksheet is a fun activity; a crossword. Students collect terms on a worksheet, and then put their answers in the crossword sheet. Each differentiated worksheet has the same questions, but to make things easier for some students, we have included some terms in spaces to give a clue. This is also great for self checking answers.The next two worksheets focus on expanding and factorising, and is a standard worksheet with questions on both expanding brackets and factorising terms with one set of brackets (linear equations). For the challenging questions, this includes simple quadratics with one bracket; ie x(x+2). The second of these worksheets is an unusual activity combining area of shapes as a form of setting up equations to then factorise.The final two worksheets looks at substitution. The first consists of a grid; the rows gives the value of x and y, and the columns give the expression to be substituted. Table Splat! (Times Tables Game)

A game that can be played in pairs, threes or independently. Please note that this game focuses on times tables facts from 2 to 10 to ensure children are confident in these tables before progressing to the 11s and 12s, which will need to be taught subsequently.Children need a 'Table Splat' mat and counters (different coloured counters for each child). Children take turns to turn over a card, revealing a times tables question. The child who is the first to place their counter on the correct answer (whilst shouting 'SPLAT!') can leave their counter on the board. The winner is the player with the most counters on the board once all of the times table cards have been used.Differentiate by choosing the multiplication cards relevant for that child, depending on which times table they are currently working on. *Update: 6s and 9s have been underlined, to avoid confusion.*Save money when bought as part of a bundle. I created this code breaking maths lesson for an Ofsted observation. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and had so much fun (whilst still learning). The children are told that they have been selected by the local police to solve a crime. Unfortunately, all of the money from the school office has been stolen and an artist impression of the suspects has been provided. The children must crack the secret police codes to elimate the innocent suspects (cross them off) and reveal the final two suspects. Once this has been completed the last clue is placed on the IWB. Children get a reward for helping the police! I have differentiated the 4 ways questions (HIPPO - the highest, MOUSE - the second highest, HA - third highest, LA - lowest) but they could be adapted to any year group! I have also included the lesson plan and PowerPoint to help clarify the task. Plotting coordinates using up to four quadrants!

I have created this for a year 5 top set maths group. It is differentiated 3 ways, yellow being the less able, green able and pink more able. This links in very heavily with shape as I am teaching this following 3 weeks on shape, space and measure, so it will continue to embed their knowledge of quadrilaterals, types of triangles, angles and parallel and perpendicular lines. Hope this is useful! Have included photos of what it should look like once points have been plotted, hopefully I haven't made any silly mistakes! :-)
