Creating a Rainbow Scratch Picture in paint.net

Creating a Rainbow Scratch Picture in paint.net

This is the computer version of an art activity that used to involve colored crayons, black paint and drawing by scratching in the wet paint with the blunt end of a paint brush. Designed for teachers needing to include some computer technologies in their junior and middle school art programs the resource pages can be be used as a student handout or as a reference for guided instruction. The software named in this resource is paint.net (readily available and free ) but the instructions given are easily transferable to any paint or photo-manipulation software with layered transparencies. The zip file included contains a paint.net file that has the colored background and black top layers already created. This could be used as a template for younger students, allowing them to simply draw and have the background colors show through. Please complete a review of this resource if you have found it useful.

Traffic lights and LED's on Raspberry Pi's

Traffic lights and LED's on Raspberry Pi's

A 6 lesson resource including lesson plans and accompanying PowerPoint's introducing students to set up and creation of Raspberry pi's, breadboards and LED use. Please note you will need breadboards and LED's along with appropriate wires and pi's to enable this to work! Some knowledge of raspberry pi and wiring will also be required. The accompanying workbook is designed for students to draw out wiring diagrams and program notes in order that they can recreate projects each lesson. Lesson plans include time to "get out" and pack away raspberry pi's assuming they are not always set up. This is a slightly older resource but is designed to be adapted to suit individual school needs and set ups. Levelling help sheets and feedback templates are also provided. Some teacher knowledge is expected but these should provide a good starting point for further experimentation.

Cross Curricular Creative Project: Science, English and ICT

Cross Curricular Creative Project: Science, English and ICT

This is a set of lessons, resources, homework and schemes of work targeted at cross curricular links between Science, English and ICT for KS3 pupil. The theme is “Your Favourite Movie” and the pupils are to build a portfolio of graded activities to create their project. It was designed to fit the timetable for my school where the year 7 and 8’s had a creative curriculum day once a week with three teachers assigned; one Science, English and ICT. The pupils would then take a lead on how they would manage their time over a term. They would select from a range of activities each week, themed to each subject, and would allocate themselves for the day. All these activities would then build up to their “Creative Diploma” for that term. It worked by building a project from their 6 best activities from a selection of 9. This obviously may not fit your timetable model but could easily be adapted to be run over a much longer period of time as cross curricular after school clubs of summer holiday projects etc. Each activity is built up from many smaller tasks leading to a grade for that piece of work using level ladders. All tasks are written and presentable straight to the pupils with clear guidance, instructions, tasks, questions, homework and level ladders. The level ladders are based around now, next, further and advanced so not grade or level based but easily editable to fit your school model.Activities range from building circuits, podcasts, web design, writing scripts, costume design, cameras and lenses, the behaviour of light and filters and theme songs. Each individual activity linked back to their “Favourite Movie” concept building a solid link between these three subjects.A fun and practical way to cover a huge variety of subjects and topics from within these three specific curriculums.
