The Striving To Improve Series: Writing Book 1

The Striving To Improve Series: Writing Book 1

The Striving to Improve Series targets students who, for whatever reason, are struggling to keep up with their peers. The activities in the books are designed to prevent students from regressing any further at school. The tasks are based on a modified curriculum so that students can work at their own pace and without constant supervision from the teacher. The children who you teach may be struggling with their school work because they have been diagnosed with learning difficulties such as ADHD or dyslexia. They may be struggling because of social factors which have resulted in them missing a lot of school. Whatever the reason, this book, Writing Book 1, will help students begin to write more clearly, accurately and confidently.Activities in this book link to relevant and appropriate curriculums for Years 5 and 6, so children feel that what is being asked of them is actually achievable. To make the tasks more manageable, they have been broken down into small parts which gives each student the opportunity to process one idea at a time. Time limits have been either abandoned or made flexible for students so success becomes a habit rather than a rarity. This is a Photocopy Master ebook (56 pages) and activity pages may be photocopied for use in the classroom. Interactive Letter Lower Case Recognition Powerpoint Game

Interactive Letter Lower Case Recognition Powerpoint Game

Letter recognition is important because it enables beginning readers to comprehend how printed text is associated with the spoken language. Having a mastery of letter names can make letter sounds easier for emerging readers.Experienced teachers agree that effective letter recognition is a fine balance of both explicit instruction of letters and frequent exposure to those letters in multiple forms, both isolated and within text. This letter recognition game should not only be fun for the student, but provide repeated practice in recognising the letters of the alphabet. Students are rewarded with a spinning star and a smile when they identify the correct letters. To avoid students being moved on to the next slide automatically when clicking on a wrong answer, I have had to include sad faces. All clicks are accompanied by some fun audio! Once the slide show is set up by the teacher, the student should be able to progress through the game independently. They may require help until they develop confidence in the technical aspects of using the game.• This game is also useful for intervention and assessment.• I have intentionally created the game in black and white to allow the teacher to print as a worksheet. Students can cover the correct letters with manipulatives, such as counters.CONTENT• Cover• Teacher Notes (includes instructions)• Printable Worksheets• Interactive Letter Recognition Game PowerPoint (lower case)• Credits/TOUPAGE COUNT: 56

Indonesia Scheme of Work

Indonesia Scheme of Work

A short scheme of work on Indonesia. Targeted at low ability (SEN) year 7 but easily adapted (with some differentiation worksheet options included and suggestions offered). It could work well for primary students as well as KS3. This covered about 10 lessons and was easily extended by using additional tasks - again, some suggested. The unit explores the basic physical geography of Indonesia and looks at tectonic plates leading to a bit of research on the 2004 tsunami. The created some lovely work from this that resulted in a colourful display. The students also read Running Wild alongside completing this task.

Geography: Tectonic Processes

Geography: Tectonic Processes

Tectonic Processes is an 11-page pdf document that includes 4 crosswords that focus on tectonic processes (1. The Earth, 2. Continental drift, 3. Earthquakes, 4. Volcanoes). Each crossword can be used as a class activity to reinforce the vocabulary and concepts of the topic. The puzzles can be done as group activities or even as a homework activity. Because they are self-contained, these crosswords can be a good activity to use when a teacher is absent. They're also useful as a revision / reinforcement activity later in the course. There are 3 bonus puzzles that focus on the geography of: USA & Canada, The Central American region, and 3. South America). These can be used 'anytime, anywhere'. All the answers are included.

Armada Portrait Analysis

Armada Portrait Analysis

Aimed at KS3 to help them develop annotation skills. The source is differentiated so students can complete annotation labels, write them themselves or cut and paste the labels around the source. There is an additional cloze exercise to be completed (or copied out) to help students learn to make notes and then write up their ideas. Whilst made for SEN (Autism/Dyslexia), this would work well as a starter for other ability levels.

Fine motor Activities

Fine motor Activities

Whether there is a specific medical reason or late development, a child who struggles with fine motor control can become frustrated, angry or suffer low self-esteem. They may tire quicker than their peers when attempting fine motor tasks. Some of the tasks may include, resisting drawing and writing, having trouble holding a pencil correctly, slow handwriting and struggling to use scissors. These activities are designed to be fun and improve fine motor skills. I found that having a small box of tricks to draw upon for quick 10 minutes interventions worked well, can be used 1:1 or as a small group.
