As a teacher, you know how fulfilling the profession can be; the demands are high, but when you get that breakthrough moment, when you really feel you’ve made a difference – for an individual or a group – the rewards are too.

If you’re wondering about the value of studying for an advanced degree, we’ve picked out five reasons why you should take our MA in Education with Pedagogy course.

Our MA is a top-up qualification that will enable you to transfer credits from a PGCE or iPGCE and build on them to gain a full Master's degree focusing on teaching and learning. Here we explain how the course can help you to make a positive impact on the lives of the pupils you teach and take the next step in your career in education.

1. Develop (Master’s level) expertise

We know that teachers, wherever they are in their career journey, recognise the importance of professional development. Our Master’s course will help you to develop your academic and professional knowledge and consider the learning environments you create as a teacher, as well as giving you the chance to conduct reflective, systematic and rigorous research into aspects of education that matter to you.

By learning to critically analyse and reflect upon education research and processes at an advanced level you’ll become a more sophisticated educator who can make a significant professional impact. Gaining a Master’s degree can also help you to progress to PhD level study.

2. Study 100% online (at a time and place that suits you)

Our MA in Education with Pedagogy is delivered through our award-winning platform, Tes Learn, so you can study completely online from anywhere in the world with support from a dedicated pathway tutor. Our aim is to create accessible training that you can fit around the demands of your work and personal commitments. We offer lectures at different times and always share recordings so you can be flexible in how you attend.

3. Increase your career prospects

As well as increasing your expertise in your chosen field, gaining a Master’s degree can help to distinguish you from other candidates during the hiring process. You may also be considered better qualified for leadership and management roles. Holding a Master’s degree could also help you to gain a higher salary and build a professional network of like-minded educators who can provide you with useful connections throughout your career.

4. Gain a competitively priced Master’s degree

At £4,000 plus VAT (where applicable) our MA in Education with Pedagogy offers excellent value for money. Plus, if you have a PGCE or iPGCE awarded by Tes Institute you could be eligible for a 10% discount reducing your fee to £3,600 plus VAT (where applicable). We also offer a flexible payment option where you can pay in instalments.

Our MA in Education with Pedagogy is a top-up qualification. To join the course, you will need to hold 60 credits at Level 7 in Education (usually an iPGCE or PGCE). You will gain another 120 credits on this course, and on successful completion gain a complete MA award carrying 180 credits – equivalent to any accredited MA from the UK.

5. Prepare yourself for school leadership

Having a Master’s degree is not a compulsory requirement for teachers entering leadership, management or senior positions in schools in the UK or internationally. However, in a competitive market, having a higher-level qualification can make you more attractive to employers; studying at Master’s level helps to build your leadership qualities, and also demonstrates your competency as an advanced educator, broadening your personal and professional skill set.
