‘Children surprise us with kindness every day’

Teachers take to Twitter to share their fondest memories of children being kind to one another

When stories of strict behaviour policies and unruly pupils dominate our timelines, it’s important to remember the kindness, compassion and great behaviour shown by many children on daily basis.

And this morning, that’s exactly what Ruth Swailes, school improvement adviser and education consultant, set out to do.

“We often hear negative stories about behaviour, I think it’s important to balance that out with the good things happening in schools too.

“That’s not to detract from the challenging behaviour many teachers deal with, I’ve been there myself and I know it is really tough at times. I work as a school improvement advisor and I’m often really impressed by the kindness and compassion pupils show in school. I wanted to celebrate that,” she says.

She asked edu-twitter to share their favourite stories of children behaving beautifully. From the little girl who made individualised cards for the whole class telling each pupil how amazing they are, to the Year 6 boys who stopped their football match so the Year 1s could have a shot at the goal, the stories are truly lovely.
