Ken Muir, the former chief executive of the General Teaching Council for Scotland, has been made a CBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list.
Mr Muir, who retired earlier this year, is honoured for “services to education in light of his work during the pandemic”.
He said he had been “honoured” to hold the “best job in Scottish education”.

Mr Muir’s career in education spanned 42 years and he was recently made an honorary professor at the University of the West of Scotland.
A number of Scottish educators were made MBEs, including:
James Brand, principal teacher of curriculum, Annan Academy, Dumfries and Galloway. For services to music and education.
David Dykes. For services to Perth Academy and to the community in Perth.
Evelyn Oliphant, head of strategic business unit, Education Scotland. For services to education and charity.
Ellen Rafferty, of Uddingston. For services to education.
Anita Weir, faculty head of business and information technology, Inverurie Academy, Aberdeenshire. For services to education.
