The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a new ‘Second in Charge of Science’ (2ic) to join our academy and work alongside our Director of Science and other department leaders to continue the growth and development of our fantastic science department.   Our new 2ic will be a highly effective teacher in their own right, able to showcase outstanding practice in the classroom and have profound subject knowledge.  They will offer inspiring levels of curriculum leadership and work collaboratively with our excellent team of science teachers to develop an ambitious curriculum across all key stages to enable the highest level of pupil progress and attainment.  The appointed 2ic also help to develop an engaging programme of science enrichments and societies to promote a passion for the subject among our young people – and it will be their drive and passion that will be make the biggest difference here.    

We are keen to make our new appointment without delay and therefore the start date is flexible.  

What you offer

Through their outstanding teaching practice, our new 2ic will model outstanding teaching to other colleagues and thereby act as an example to all middle leaders within the academy. You will be knowledgeable about your subject and able to think creatively about how to inspire and engage KAA students with the science curriculum. You will be collaborative, reflective and resilient in the face of setbacks and be open to making improvements to the department to directly benefit staff and students.

KAA is an 11 – 18 academy situated in the heart of Notting Hill. We opened in brand new buildings in 2014 with just Year 7 and our facilities are second to none. We are now in our ninth year of operation and are a full school with 1,250 students in Years 7 to 13.
