Job overview

Appointment of Chief Admissions and Marketing Officer

As one of the UK’s pre-eminent co-educational boarding and day schools, Repton provides an exceptional, broad-based education. Founded in 1557 Repton blends heritage with the pursuit of excellence in a 21st century context, offering world-class facilities as well as high-quality teaching and pastoral care.

With the appointment of Mark Semmence as Headmaster (Chief Executive) in April 2019, the School is entering an ambitious new stage in its development as Repton and its preparatory school, Foremarke Hall, are moving towards becoming one ‘through school’ with a combined turnover of £22.5 million, employing 480 staff and educating nearly 1,100 pupils.

Reporting directly to Mark Semmence as CEO, and working closely with Repton’s new COO, Emma Bateman and new Chief Development and Commercial Officer, Andrew Cook, the new Chief Admissions and Marketing Officer has an exciting opportunity to bring together Repton’s admissions and marketing activities across both schools. The appointee will lead a coherent, connected and dynamic admissions and marketing department, with the aim of increasing the brand perception of Repton and Foremarke, further their regional, national and global profile, together with their pupil recruitment reach.

This leadership position will be most likely suited to an experienced and innovative professional with a proven track record within a sales and marketing related context, who will possess excellent relationship-building skills, a strong sense of team and the entrepreneurial and commercial instincts to ensure Repton and Foremarke continue to thrive.

Experience of working within an educational environment is not necessarily a prerequisite, as the role might suit an exceptional individual with similar commercial sales and marketing experience gained outside the sector, but who has an instinctive feel for the independent boarding market, combined with the relevant transferable skills to undertake this complex and fulfilling role.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 17th October 2019.

Repton School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service.

Repton School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for 13- to 18-year-olds. Situated in Repton, Derbyshire, the school hosts around 620 pupils. Former students have included Roald Dahl and Jeremy Clarkson.

The school was founded in 1557 and has grown considerably since; it now boasts a science priory, which was built in 2013, plus multi-purpose laboratories and a 3D lecture theatre. The music school has been redeveloped and the school theatre has been redesigned to include tier seating.

Repton was previously a 12th-century priory and the remaining part of the priory is known as Prior Overton’s Tower, which has been incorporated into a 19th-century building in honour of the school's historical beginnings. For pupils who stay on campus, there are 10 houses – six for boys and four for girls.
