Job overview
The Norwood School is a Visual and Performing Arts specialist school that successfully delivers a broad, engaging and exciting curriculum. We nurture young people to be culturally aware, curious and opinionated about the arts and able to make connections with the world around them, both confidently and imaginatively.
We are seeking to appoint a highly skilled, passionate and dynamic teacher of Visual Arts with an Arts and/or Graphics specialism that can inspire, challenge and motivate young people. The successful candidate needs to have a flexible skill set that in addition to their subject specialism has ability to teach across a range of disciplines in both Art and Technology at KS3-5. This will include at least two of the following: Textiles, Fine Art, Photography, Product and/or Graphic Design.
The Visual Arts Faculty at Norwood is highly successful and is underpinned by contemporary practice and connections with local artists and creative industries. Experience of professional practice is beneficial but not a requirement.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward thinking and dynamic team and work in a Visual and Performing Arts School that encourages cross-curricular creativity and originality, is described by Ofsted as ‘innovative and engaging’ and provides extensive opportunities for students that enhance their learning experiences and contribute to their success.
If you meet the criteria above and are looking for the next challenge in your teaching career, then we would like to hear from you. Applications are welcome from both NQTs and experienced teachers
For further details and an application form, please contact the Headteacher’s PA, Sally Parsons parsons.s@thenorwoodschool.org. Informal discussions with Ali Cowley, Head of Visual Arts, prior to application are welcome.

Ofsted reports
“Students’ achievement is best when teachers make good use of assessment to set a demanding pace. In a Year 9 mathematics lesson, rapid learning activities with regular assessment meant students quickly developed the confidence to apply the skills of expanding brackets to a variety of problems. Students benefited from immediate identification of their misconceptions and moved on without delay.”
