About Elian's British School of La Nucia

Elian's British School of La Nucía is an all-through, British school, located in a stunning setting in the mountains overlooking the Mediterranean on the Costa Blanca in Spain. It opened its doors in 2002 and in 2023 became one of the founding schools of the Dukes Education group.

The school is fully bilingual and follows the UK's Early Years Foundation Stage framework between the ages of 1-5, then the English National Curriculum after that (Year 1/Key Stage 1 upwards). Secondary students work towards their British IGCSE exams, (which are validated so they're recognised in the Spanish system) and may also choose to take the IB Diploma Programme in Key Stage 5. Students also follow essential parts of the Spanish curriculum and they can opt to study for the Spanish Baccalaureate (Bachillerato).

Elian's employs more than eighty staff, with qualified proficient speakers teaching all English subjects. The majority of staff choose to send their own children to the school, and tuition fees are waived for school employees. There are also classroom assistants, a full-time IT technician, a school psychologist, a chef and a nurse. Unlike most schools in Spain, our terms usually include half-term holidays. For staff, the school year typically begins in the last week of August and finishes in early July. We also enjoy the full allocation of Spain's generous public holidays. Staff are given year-round contracts (the majority of which are permanent), with salaries paid according to the convenio (a collective agreement between teaching unions and private schools).

Elian's has a purpose-built campus, with several sports courts and pitches, a twenty-metre swimming pool, and spacious, landscaped gardens with shade, shelter, seating areas and play equipment. The main building consists of a primary and secondary section, which adjoin an airy reception hall and library/resource centre. The classrooms have interactive whiteboards and touchscreens, and there are dedicated rooms for ICT, art, design and technology, as well as four science laboratories and a fully equipped auditorium.

Our motto is Learning at the speed of life and as such, we aim to work with all our children to fully develop their potential, not only academically, but also in relation to their individual talents and skills. We encourage our students to take responsibility for their own actions, to be sensitive to the people around them and have an awareness of the wider community. We guide them towards global citizenship, and the diversity of our intake gives our children great insight into the fascinating mix of cultures, races and nationalities that make up our world. We follow a policy of positive reinforcement, rewarding and encouraging desirable behaviour wherever possible. We aim to make Elian's the ideal environment in which our children can develop a hunger to learn and the capacity to think independently. Our goal is to nurture happy, confident and creative children, who leave our school as responsible, self-assured young adults, with everything they need to make the most of their future.
