Mathematics is a highly successful Faculty area at Weydon. There is a buzz of enthusiasm for the subject which is complimented by a sense of purpose. This can be seen in any learning walk during the school day and the extra curricular classes and clubs that take place.
The successful candidate will join a highly skilled and creative team of specialist staff who have consistently achieved outstanding results (69% 9-5 and 32% 9-7 in 2017). We offer students the opportunity to study Level 2 Further Mathematics, as well as GCSE Statistics as an option for students. This will offer the potential candidate the opportunity to develop a creative curriculum to stretch and challenge the most able.
Currently nearly 40% of the students choose to follow Mathematics at A level. We would anticipate that this number will be higher when we are successful in our bid to become an 11-18 school.
The Faculty is very well resourced and is accommodated in two suites consisting of twelve classrooms. The Fermat Centre was opened in 2011 and has six state-of-the-art spacious classrooms equipped with digital projectors, interactive whiteboards and floor to ceiling teaching walls. Next to the Fermat Centre is the Vasari Block which provides the further six classrooms and ample space for one to one and withdrawal lessons.
We are currently developing a new bespoke mastery scheme of learning for KS3 as well as having a rigorous approach in the adaptation of the Pearson Scheme. In Years 7-9 students have 4 lessons each week and in Years 10-11 they have 5 lessons per week.
As KS3 coordinator, you will be at the forefront of the exciting developments of our teaching for mathematical mastery. This will include looking at the Scheme of Learning, assessment, intervention and Home Learning. You will also be part of a dynamic and innovative leadership team within the faculty as we continually look to improve the learning and teaching of mathematics.
We are an active partner with the Surrey Plus Maths Hub. This has led to us running Years 8 and 10 enrichment events, Maths Teachmeets and leading a Key Stage 4 challenging topics at GCSE CPD course. Additionally, we participate in the United Kingdom Maths Challenge which has led to students competing in the further Olympiad rounds.
Our excellent staff make us outstanding. If you apply and are successful you will be supported and developed through our extensive CPD programme organised in conjunction with our teaching school. Regardless of your experience or level of responsibility you will have a range of exciting opportunities to ensure you are always improving and learning. The Faculty area is an experienced ITT provider and works and provides support to other primary and secondary schools.
We welcome applications from well qualified, experienced, teachers; the key is that you are enthusiastic and capable of contributing to a highly effective and supportive Mathematics teaching team, along with adding to the school ethos.
