THE ROLE

Head of Pastoral (Junior School) has the primary responsibility for the provision of pastoral care across the Junior School. To take up post in August 2024.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Pastoral Care:

1.      Oversee the provision of pastoral care within the Junior School, promoting early intervention.

2.      Support the wellbeing of all students and staff, including the gathering and sharing of qualitative data across the school.

3.      Liaise with the School Counsellor when and where required.

4.      Liaise with the Junior School Heads and the Junior School Board Advisor and the External Safeguarding Consultant about safeguarding and pastoral care.

5.      Develop and oversee the Junior School house system.

6.      Provide guidance and training for Junior School Homeroom tutors, on their roles and responsibilities, pertaining to pastoral care responsibilities.

7.      Attend pastoral care meetings, sub-committee meetings, representing the Junior School.

Manage the quality and delivery of pastoral and safeguarding INSET for the Junior School.

8.      Oversee al staff pastoral training and development including engagement in research for the Junior School.

9.      Keep up to date with safeguarding legislation and best practice and keep the Junior School SMT informed.

10.   Update relevant Junior School policies and procedures in line with the Senior School.

11.   Deliver safeguarding training for the Junior School.

12.   Communicate with and meet parents as necessary.

13.   Coordinate all student pastoral initiaitives for Junior School.

14.   Develop and oversee Junior School PHSE programme.

Discipline and Conduct:

1.      Oversee standard of students’ personal conduct throughout the Junior School.

2.      Work closely with the Junior School Heads to implement and monitor whole school approaches to promoting positive behaviour and relationships.

3.      Manage any serious disciplinary cases involving Junior School pupils.

4.      Manage and update codes of conduct and discipline and their related policies for Junior School.

5.      Support the Head of Junior School and the Deputy Head of Junior School with sanctions, rewards and discipline cases.

Staff Wellbeing:

1.      Lead the Junior School elements of staff training, to include safeguarding and access to the latest educational research that is of relevance to all teaching staff.

Other Management and Liaison:

1.      Support the staff INSET across the Junior School.

2.      Develop and maintain an effective Student School Council across the Junior School.

3.      Attend pastoral and safeguarding committees or any internal or external meetings as necessary.

4.      Attend the School Governing Board’s Education and Pastoral Committee, providing papers as required.

Any other duties as required by the Head of Junior School.


PERSON SPECIFICATION:

QUALIFICATIONS

·       Bachelor’s degree, PGCE/QTS.

·       Recent CPD in pastoral care.

·       Postgraduate qualifications would be advantageous.

 Languages

·       Fluent in English.

WORKING eXPERIENCE

·       A minimum of two years’ teaching experience at a UK or international school.

·       Demonstrable experience of working in pastoral care and safeguarding at an advanced level.

Competencies

·       Knowledge of the UK education system.

·       Good understanding of the UK regulatory framework around pastoral care and safeguarding.

·       Solid understanding of international independent education.

·       Familiarity with policies concerning Safeguarding, Behaviour, Health and

Safety, Special Educational Needs.

·       A passion for teaching and a commitment to educating the whole child.

·       A commitment to safeguarding and to promoting the welfare of children and young people.

·       Excellent interpersonal skills, with an even-handed approach, sensitive and empathetic and able to see things from the perspectives of others.

·       Ability to remain calm under pressure.
