The Role   

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious teacher and school leader, to develop their career working as part of our senior leadership team to implement and develop our pastoral care systems with particular focus on pupil welfare and well-being. This crucial role is part of the school’s commitment to ensure that all pupils achieve their potential in a happy, safe and harmonious environment.  The main focus of the role is to lead the development of pastoral engagement, provision and policy; promote and safeguard the welfare and well-being of the boys; establish a clear ethos, set of values and opportunity for personal enrichment; lead and ensure compliance with the school’s safeguarding Policy and Procedures and fulfil the role of the school’s designated safeguarding lead.  

The Assistant Head – Pupil Welfare and Well-being is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and not only heads the pastoral programme throughout the school but has devolved duties to teach his/her subject and to assist in the day to day running of the school. An excellent educational understanding of key pastoral issues and organisational abilities, sensitivity, discretion, efficiency and energy are requirements of the position.  The duties are extensive and require a full commitment to the welfare, happiness and well-being of the school community, as well as compliance with Statutory Regulations.  

The School    

Falcons Preparatory School is an independent day school for boys from 7-13 years based in Richmond upon Thames, west London. Founded in 2008 the School has quickly grown to 170 pupils. FSPB combines a rigorous academic education with developing confident, assured boys who experience a diverse, challenging curriculum and a supportive pastoral programme.  

Throughout the year, the school has the use of Westminster Playing Fields, Richmond Athletic Ground, where we also have a flourishing partnership with London Scottish Rugby Club and Richmond Cricket Club, which again is walking distance from the school as is the swimming pool.  

The school is a vibrant community where boys are encouraged, nurtured and motivated at every turn by a talented and committed staff. There are many opportunities for boys to grow academically; on the sports field; artistically; on stage; and to take leadership responsibilities in many different areas providing them with a broad educational experience.  

The school bus service covers Hammersmith, Turnham Green, Chiswick, Ealing and is located close to Richmond train station and excellent bus services. A St Margaret’s, Twickenham and Isleworth bus service is planned in the near future. The School has a strong presence in the local community holding weekly assemblies at St John the Divine and our Speech Day at Richmond Theatre.
