The Loughborough Schools Foundation is a charitable foundation of 3 independent schools operating under a single board of trustees/directors.  The schools comprise of Loughborough Grammar School (1040 pupils), Loughborough High School (615 pupils) and Fairfield Preparatory School (490 pupils).  Loughborough Grammar School and Loughborough High School were established in 1495 and 1850 respectively.  The schools enjoy a very high reputation for their academic, cultural and sporting achievements, and for the quality of their pastoral care.  Situated at a very pleasant 39 acre campus on the south side of Loughborough, the schools have begun a new phase of major capital development and a new joint music school has now been completed as well as five new classrooms and a drama studio at LHS. The refurbishment of existing science buildings and extension to the science block was completed in September 2010.

The Loughborough Schools Foundation employs approximately 450 staff in both teaching and non-teaching roles.  The non-academic aspects of the Foundation are managed by the Foundation Secretary and Treasurer through the centralized functions of finance, health & safety, estates, catering, IT and human resources.  These departments are based in the bursary and oversee both day to day activities in these areas as well as helping to manage the longer term planning for the Foundation.

The Foundation is incorporated as a company limited by guarantee, number 4038033, and is a registered charity, number 1081765.

Loughborough High School is possibly the oldest girls' Grammar School in England.  The school was opened in March 1850 and moved to its present site in 1879.

Loughborough High School was a former Direct Grant Grammar School.  In 1976, because of Government policy at the time, the Governors decided that the schools should become independent.  However, the school participated in the Government Assisted Places Scheme and, when this scheme was abandoned; the Governing Body introduced its own scheme of Foundation Bursaries, replacing the Government scheme.

The school is very successful academically and offers a wealth of opportunities to its staff and pupils.  We cover all the subjects included in the National Curriculum, and others in addition.  We encourage our pupils to pursue a broad and wide-ranging curriculum which meets the needs of the 21st century.  We place a high value on preparing pupils for their future careers, not only in terms of skills, such as ICT, but also in moral and spiritual matters.  Our pupils receive a good all-round education which develops their independence of thought and outlook and equips them to become active citizens in a diverse world. The school is highly academic and virtually all go on to university.
