Assistant Head Teacher - Great Oaks College  £52325 - £57370 p/a

Great Oaks College is a new specialist independent college, opening in September 2018 co-located within Oaklands School new state of the art, purpose built premises located in Gresham Road, Isleworth, close to Osterley Tube Station.  

The college will provide further educational opportunities to post 19 students that have moderate, severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties or autism. We will open with 3 tutor groups of students on 3 courses. Eventually Great Oaks will offer 6 distinct courses in 3 pathways. 

Over time, Assistant Heads roles will become aligned with one pathway, four tutor groups and staff. Initially, our first Assistant Head will need to be flexible and have the skills to support across all pathways and is most likely to be the tutor on our sensory course for pupils with PMLD, although this is negotiable.  

The successful candidate will have at least 3 years experience of teaching in a special school or supported learning environment coupled with middle leadership or leadership experience gained from working in a special education environment.

Oaklands is an excellent special school serving the London Borough of Hounslow. We provide specialist education to students with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple difficulties and autism. We have a Primary school (New Oaks), Secondary school (High Oaks) and a specialist independent SEN College provision (Great Oaks). We can cater for students aged from 4 to 25 across the Oaklands group.

Oaklands is at an exciting point in its development; we are currently working towards expansion and full school relocation to a purpose built new school in Hounslow for September 2018. Upon completing their apprenticeship, our staff can progress onto LSA or TA roles.  

We offer teacher training sponsorship and are currently sponsoring 4 of our TA’s through teacher training, 3 of whom started their career at Oaklands on our teaching assistant apprenticeship.  

We would like to offer work experience placements to students interested in pursuing a career in special education and are always keen to hear from those wanting to volunteer in our school.
