Ashington Academy and the North East Learning Trust are seeking to appoint a talented leader to join the Senior Leadership Team at Ashington Academy

Are you a consistently excellent practitioner who is looking for a new challenge and the next step into senior leadership?

Do you want to join a forward-thinking Trust with innovative approaches to learning at its core, a Trust that places children at the heart of everything we do?

We are seeking to appoint a highly qualified, motivated and ambitious leader with the highest personal and academic standards, someone who is an outstanding practitioner, with high expectations and a record of achieving the best outcomes from their students.  We are looking for a leader with drive, energy, a genuine love for teaching and learning and a passion for ensuring students fully achieve their potential.

You will have an up to date knowledge of assessment as well as academic and pastoral issues pertinent to Post-16 education. Ashington Academy is at an exciting stage in its development. The Sixth Form has courses running at Ashington Academy and Bedlington Academy sites and part of your role will be to continue the development of these links.

Ashington Academy has joined The North East Learning Trust and will be able to offer you:

• A welcoming learning environment.

• An exciting opportunity within a rapidly-changing Northumberland school, with evolving leadership opportunities and the chance to make a real difference to children.

• A highly supportive strategic team.

• Skilled and professional colleagues.

• Innovative opportunities for continuing professional development.

• Staff wellbeing package

If you are passionate about the students with whom you work, have high expectations with regards to standards and behaviour and a commitment to ensuring that every student achieves their full potential, we look forward to your application.

Ashington Academy has recently joined the North East Learning Trust - a family of schools that spans the North East. By joining the Trust, we are now well positioned to help to take it from strength to strength offering our experience and expertise to other schools, whilst having wider access to shared resources and ideas ourselves.

The Trust vision is that every child experiences excellence every day, and membership enables us all to share our skills to ensure that this vision is a reality for all schools in the Trust.

Teachers joining Ashington Academy join us as proud members of a Trust that is seeing rapid results across the region and one that places huge importance on staff development with opportunities at all levels to progress and reach your full potential.

Within our family of schools, we have a designated Teaching School and ‘outstanding’ SCITT programme and we were also designated one of only 22 Research Schools country in April 2017. Thus, you will be joining a Trust with a wealth of resources, capacity and expertise.

Ashington occupies a prime location, situated on directly on the beautiful Northumberland coastline and also on the outskirts of the Northumberland countryside, home to the some of the country’s greatest landscapes. The school has excellent transport links and is only 18 miles north of Newcastle city centre, easily accessible from the A1 and the A19.

Completed application forms should be returned with an accompanying letter (no longer than two sides of A4) by email to jade.hutton@bedlingtonacademy.co.uk, or by forwarding the completed application form by post to Bedlington Academy.

Visits to the school are also strongly encouraged. Please contact Jade Hutton, Support Services Manager on 01670 822625.

An enhanced DBS check and pre-occupational health check are an essential part of the selection and recruitment process. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all its staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

There has never been a more exciting time to join Ashington Academy. Recently rated ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in March 2022, our school has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, and we are extremely proud to be recognised to be providing a high quality education to the children of this south Northumberland community.

We are now taking the next steps in our ambitious journey, continuing to ensure that all students are able to thrive academically, socially and in their wider personal development.

We have highly committed staff and a strong and enthusiastic governing body. Parents are very supportive of the school. We have a thriving programme of extra-curricular activities and adult education. Many of our students are qualified sports leaders through the Junior, Community and Higher Sports Leadership Awards. We regularly have charity fundraising events and have a lot of fun in the process of raising thousands of pounds for deserving causes.

About the North East Learning Trust (NELT)

In 2017 we were sponsored by the North East Learning Trust, a successful, multi-academy education trust. The trust is made up of seven secondary schools (including four sixth forms), four primary schools, a teacher training provider, North East SCITT, a national Research School and a National Teaching School Hub.
