Job overview
Assistant Headteacher, Head of Sixth Form
Closing date: Wednesday 21st February 2018, noon
Salary: L13 – L20
Required for September 2018, a full-time permanent Assistant Headteacher to lead our Sixth Form.
Sheldon is a large comprehensive school with just under 1800 students and 360 in the sixth form. Regularly in the top 25% nationally for value-added performance, the provision within the sixth form is strong, but we would like to appoint an outstanding teacher who will lead a large team of tutors and two heads of year to even greater success over the next five years. As a member of the senior management team, the person appointed will have significant responsibility and will help shape the direction of the whole school, not just within the post-16 setting.
This is an excellent opportunity to lead a hugely committed team in a friendly, successful school, where morale is high, students are keen to learn and there is a shared will to make it even stronger. If you possess the drive, energy, passion and ambition needed, we would very much like to hear from you.
To apply, please submit a covering letter of no more than two sides of A4 and complete the application form. In addition, in a separate document of no more than 750 words, we would like you to describe an initiative you have managed which has had a positive impact in your school.
We are situated in attractive parkland on the edge of the rapidly growing market town of Chippehnam, surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are good rail and road links to London, we are 5 minutes from junction 17 on the M4 and a 10 minute train journey to the beautiful Roman City of Bath.

Values and vision
Sheldon is an institution of high expectation and aspiration. It encourages children to develop academically, physically and spiritually through committed and dedicated teaching. It prides itself on being a place where unique individuals achieve their own aims. The school motto is "unity and loyalty", and Sheldon encourages all students to engage with different cultures and systems of belief.
There is particular progress for students in English and physical education, as well as creative subjects such as design and technology and art. A specialist school in science, sport and languages, Sheldon has multiple facilities for those subjects; the modern languages department, for example, has a frequently updated mobile library. The school newsletter, The Sheldon Standard, gives students the chance to submit articles – one of many opportunities available across the secondary school and sixth form.
