ASSISTANT HEADTEACHER IN CHARGE OF CLOSING THE GAP KS2 – 5 Science Specialist         (L11 – 15 - £50,476 - £55,600)    

 Permanent, full time appointment from January 2019 

The Governors are seeking to appoint someone who can lead and develop the Closing the Gap strategy in school. This would be an ideal opportunity for a successful middle leader who aspires to Senior Leadership and who has a career profile which has fully prepared them for a Senior Leadership position. With a Progress 8 score of +0.57 which places us in the top percentage of school in the country we are above national average on all performance measures. 

The appointed person would be expected to lead and manage the Closing the Gap initiative to include responsibility for the effective deployment of the Pupil Premium/Pupil Premium + budget. You would be expected to work strategically across all key strategies to ensure that all identified vulnerable groups make maximum progress. This is a newly created role to reflect the rapid expansion of the school. You would be expected to present at interview a clear strategic vision for how you would not only close the gaps between different cohorts of pupils but also ensure that all pupils make more than expected progress. You should be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven track record of raising standards across a Science Department or aspect of school improvement. You should have undertaken appropriate leadership training to prepare you for this role.

Golborne High School, a co-educational secondary school of around 1,200 pupils, is located near to Wigan, Greater Manchester. Providing places for pupils aged 11-16, Golborne High is a foundation cooperative trust school, forming a key part of the GoalCo Trust, a network of schools and colleges situated in and around Wigan.

The GoalCo cooperative was established in 2010, but the secondary school itself first opened its doors in 1954.
