We are looking for an Assistant Head - Inclusion with proven outstanding practice in SEND as well as whole school leadership. The Assistant Headteacher is part of the Senior Leadership Team, collectively driving school improvement, with specific responsibility for all aspects of Inclusion (including Safeguarding) and Pastoral Care. The successful candidate will be experienced in working with children with a wide range of special educational needs and their families. They will be confident in working with professionals across many agencies. They will have outstanding practice in their current position, and demonstrate the ability to lead and manage staff across a diverse school community.   

The Assistant Headteacher role is currently non classroom based to facilitate maximum impact on attainment and progress across the school. However, an important element of the role will be in classrooms supporting teachers with their planning and delivery for SEND children. Within this and School Development Plan priorities, there may be some teaching responsibility.   

The successful candidate will lead the Inclusion Team and implement exciting, innovative strategies and interventions that will engage pupils and have a significant impact on progress. They will ensure provision closely matches the needs of each individual. The role demands a clear understanding of nurture and the social and emotional aspects of learning. We would be particularly interested in someone who has experience of managing SEND provision in a main stream setting. 

This amazing leader needs to:

  • Model consistently good and outstanding, inclusive classroom practice  
  • Be committed to providing a wide range of experiences that will inspire and embed learning  
  • Demonstrate passion for learning and raising standards 
  • Be able to work creatively to engage wider family in children’s learning in order to best meet their needs 
  • Be committed to our nurturing ethos in order to grow confident and happy learners
  • Enjoy being an active part of a dynamic focussed team
