We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Headteacher to work in our in our independent day school, Brookways, based in Cheam, Greater London. Brookways is an independent special school for children with autism and additional special educational needs and mental health challenges. Our young people have struggled in mainstream education and need a positive experience. Brookways is rated Good with Outstanding in its first Ofsted last year. This is an exciting time to join and lead a growing team and an innovative school.

General Responsibilities

The Assistant Head is to take a central role in assisting the Headteacher, Deputy Head and Kedleston Governance to develop our school in accordance with its shared values and the school development plans. He/ she will work in close partnership with the Kedleston Group Schools.

The Assistant Head is to be a teacher with experience across the primary and/or secondary age range; an experienced curriculum and team leader, a leader in assessment for learning and assessing pupils’ progress and a key person in the senior management team. The Assistant Head will fulfill the role of Leader of monitoring and Data, lead and manage the careers curriculum in and beyond the classroom.

Specific Responsibilities

The Assistant Head will have a small teaching commitment but will have a significant amount of dedicated leadership time which will be non-class based. From time to time he/ she will teach classes to model good practice, develop relationships, support training and development and ensure ‘quality teaching first’ and secure the smooth running of the school.

The Assistant Head will take lead responsibility for ensuring the best possible outcomes for all children with a key focus on educational and social analysis entwined with an outcomes based success for all children that allows them to take part in the wider society post Brookways.

The Assistant Head will be a model professional setting an excellent example to teaching and support staff. He/she will work in close partnership with the Headteacher in actively and demonstrably promoting enrichment, entitlement and achievement through building and implementing agreed school policies. The Assistant Head will lead by example of his/her practice, and by positively encouraging and supporting all members of staff. He/she will work with the Headteacher to ensure that the school offers a high quality, exciting, engaging, well resourced, differentiated and well matched educational experience for all children.
