Assistant Headteacher – Teaching and Learning

Leadership Spine Pt 12-16

Required for Easter 2018

Due to the promotion of the existing post holder, we are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and well qualified Assistant Headteacher who will lead on teaching and learning development. This will include supporting teachers with classroom practice, oversight of teacher training and professional development, monitoring the quality of teaching and supporting those looking to progress through coaching and mentoring. The person responsible will also promote the school’s drive towards an inclusive classroom, supporting teachers to maximise the progress of SEND, disadvantaged and more able students more effectively.

The Anglo European School is an oversubscribed 11-19 comprehensive school committed to achieving high academic standards whilst remaining caring and inclusive. The school has a distinctive, pervasive internationalist dimension which influences the broad curriculum throughout the school and prepares students for our outstanding international sixth form where we offer the International Baccalaureate alongside traditional A Levels. It is a vibrant, forward thinking school which is committed to the professional development of all staff.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to join a committed and hardworking Leadership Team with collective ambition for the school.  Candidates should want to play a significant role in leading the school with the capacity to drive school improvement, lead staff and have clear, positive impact on student outcomes. It is expected that that the successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner.

The Anglo European School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

About Anglo European School

Anglo European School is a 11-19, co-educational comprehensive school situated in Ingatestone, Essex. It has approximately 1,415 students.

The school was opened in 1973 after the closure of a secondary modern school led locals to campaign to keep the school open and the Local Authority, Essex, decided to establish a school with a “European Dimension”.

Anglo European School serves local needs but also draw students from across Essex and parts of London. In 1977 it became the first UK state school to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma and in 1995 the first comprehensive school to become a specialist Language college. In 2005 the school established the first co-headship model in a state secondary school.

As a centre of excellence for language learning, the school offers Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish as well as English as an Additional Language and Latin.  Up until age 16 all students study two languages other than English.

In the sixth form, students must study one language. They have a choice of A-levels or an opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma. There is also the chance to study selected parts of the IB Diploma with A-levels. In addition, the International Baccalaureate Career Programme provides an internationally recognised vocational qualification.
