Job overview

Welcome to Carter Community School, a small, friendly secondary school that lies at the heart of its community.

Students at Carter enjoy coming to school and want to do well. This ethos has been accomplished through a shared belief, by both staff and students, in high expectations, positive relationships, and enthusiasm in teaching and learning. Here at Carter, we believe that all students deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background. Through constant support and challenge, we achieve this aim.

People often say, after their first visit to Carter Community School, how distinctive the school is, how pioneering we are and yet also how our care and compassion clearly permeates through everything we do. Imagine then, how transformative that environment is for the children who study and grow into adults here.

This is an exciting time to join Carter Community School. You will have the opportunity to work with a staff team that is supportive, friendly and dedicated to providing the best for our students. Alongside this, it is projected that the school will double in size over the next five years, meaning that future opportunities will be presented for staff and students. If you share our ambition of providing the very best teaching and learning and you are seeking an exciting, challenging and rewarding career, we would encourage you to apply for this role.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed person to support the Learning Directors with progress, behaviour and learning.

This role will be to provide support, encouragement and pastoral care to pupils at the school and to work with a range of stakeholders, parents, support staff, outreach agencies and other schools to ensure the safety and progress of individual pupils.

You will be helping to improve the progress and achievement of our students and ensuring the development and implementation of the school’s safeguarding, behaviour and anti-bullying policies, in order to support students’ ability to self-regulate their behaviour; you will be part of a team that is child focused and changes young people’s lives through care and education.

Experience in Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA) would be an advantage.

This role requires someone with:

  • Proven strong management skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office IT programmes
  • A calm, patient and approachable manner

Previous experience in a school setting is desirable but is not essential.

Please note we reserve the right to close any vacancies from further applications when we have received a minimum amount of applications from which to make a shortlist. Please ensure you apply without delay if you wish to be considered for this role.

United Learning

Carter Community School is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
