We are seeking an inspiring and dynamic leader who has the passion and commitment to work as part of a team dedicated to achieving outstanding outcomes for all. This post carries significant responsibility.  The successful candidate will provide strong leadership as part of a team, and be accountable for whole school teaching and learning.  They will quality assure, maintain and drive up standards ensuring good and outstanding provision and outcomes for every student in the academy. They will lead a knowledge-rich curriculum, working with others to disseminate good practice across the academy. They will work in partnership with other members of SLT in providing a high level strategic, management and operational direction for the School.  

The successful candidate will have recent, relevant experience of working in a leadership capacity either as a middle leader, having been seconded to the SLT or as a member of the SLT and will have the expertise and initiative to promote outstanding provision and create an academically rigorous and supportive environment for all students.

King Edward VI Academy is a mixed, mainstream, secondary school in Spilsby, Lincolnshire.   It caters to students aged 11 to 18 with a PAN of 520 students. Places are in high demand at our popular Academy leading to us being consistently well oversubscribed in every year group.

King Edward VI Academy opened in September 2012 and is sponsored by the David Ross Education Trust. It started as two separate schools, the King Edward VI Grammar School, which opened in 1550, and Sir John Franklin Secondary Modern School, which opened in 1954. The schools were combined in 1991 and began as a Humanities College and is a co-educational bi-lateral secondary school with a sixth form.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Co-ordinate and teach a range of intervention programmes to meet the needs of students with additional needs within small intervention groups.
• Accountable for the quality of teaching and learning and students’ progress and attainment.
• Set high expectations for standards of teaching, learning, conduct and relationships, and model good practice
• Plan, and deliver engaging learning activities that are differentiated to meet the needs of all students, and that stretch and challenge students to achieve their potential.
• Responsible for target setting, tracking, monitoring student progress and achievement of students
• Ensure effective assessment for learning, consistent recording and reporting of students’ progress and the effective use of assessment data
• Monitoring of progress and standards of attainment through analysis of performance data in line with the academy’s assessment cycle
• Identifying students at risk of underachieving and in need of additional support
• Developing and implementing effective intervention strategies where required
• Monitoring the progress made within literacy and numeracy intervention strategies
• Monitor and evaluate all aspects of own teaching and learning, through active participation in the academy’s monitoring, evaluation and review cycle through: lesson observations; work sampling; student interviews; and written reports as necessary
• Develop a stimulating learning environment that promotes the identity of the department and celebrates achievement of students
• Attend meetings and parents' evenings
• Report to parents as per the academy’s recording and reporting cycle
• Attend staff training and INSET as required
• Make a good contribution to the academy’s programme of enrichment and extension activities
• Uphold all relevant academy policies and health, safety and welfare requirements
• Supervise students during unstructured periods of recreation before, during and after school
• To undertake any other specific or time-limited leadership or management duties as directed by the Principal
