Job overview

Are you an aspiring Senior Leader looking to help make a difference to the lives of young people?

This is an exciting newly created leadership role at Purple Oaks Academy. Our purpose-built new building opened in January 2018 and will provide 100 places for pupils (3-18) with a diagnosis of autism or Severe Learning Difficulties. The academy currently has 51 students and will grow each year until it reaches full capacity.

As a Senior Post Holder working in close collaboration with the Principal and Deputy Principal, you will set and embed high expectations in a key curriculum area throughout the school and drive continuous improvement through evaluation and quality assurance, ensuring that all pupils reach their full potential. You will contribute to the strategic direction of the academy and ensure that teaching and learning are of the highest standard. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of our KS4 curriculum pathways for learners working towards GCSE accreditation, as well as alternative accreditation pathways including life skills.

To be successful, you will:

  • be an outstanding classroom practitioner with experience of leading significant projects;
  • have vision, passion and a proven record in school improvement and an enthusiasm for teaching;
  • share the Trust’s ethos of improving educational standards and the life chances of young people;
  • have high values and expectations of achievement and behaviour;
  • have great teamwork and leadership skills.

The role will expose you to challenging situations involving pupils with significant special needs; therefore, experience of working with children with Autism would be advantageous.

You will join a team of committed staff who are dedicated to ensuring pupils are prepared for the years beyond education and are supported to pursue their dreams. The GAT also values continuing professional development and will ensure that you are given access to a variety of learning opportunities, including training courses via the Learning Alliance and opportunities for

sharing best practice. As this role is only required to work in term time only, it also offers the opportunity for a great work-life balance.
