Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated, inspiring and proactive Assistant Principal to join our Senior Leadership Team in ensuring continued pastoral excellence, high academic standards and outstanding progress for all students. Candidates should have the ability to be a role model to staff and students, build teams, and empower others, and are likely to be existing Assistant Principals or experienced Middle Leaders with either an academic or pastoral leadership background. This is a great opportunity to learn and develop and will be a springboard to further leadership roles.

As a member of SLT at Harris Rainham Sixth Form, you will join a new dedicated team of leaders, teachers and staff in supporting our fantastic students. To learn more about the role and the school, you are encouraged to contact the school for an informal visit or to arrange a phone call with Gareth Stananought, Principal.

Research shows that some applicants are put off if they don't meet all criteria, particularly women and people from a BAME background. We encourage and welcome any applicant who meets the majority of our criteria to apply.

About Us

Harris Rainham Sixth Form is a new sixth form and will open its doors to our first cohort of students in September 2023. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to help shape a new sixth form free school from its very beginning. Harris Rainham Sixth Form will be an academic and ambitious Academy which will meet a need for this provision in our area. For too long Rainham students have had to travel to access high quality Post 16 education. This will no longer be the case. The students of Rainham will now have an ambitious and highly aspirational sixth form that will enable our young people to access the best universities, apprenticeships and employment opportunities that exist.

We are looking for the right person to help us begin this journey.

At Harris Academy Rainham, we strive to offer students the best possible opportunities to equip them for their future. We encourage students to aim high and guide them throughout their journey with us.

We combine the traditional Harris values of excellent uniform, behaviour and manners with a modern approach to teaching and learning. Working closely with families to ensure that students are supported and nurtured, we work hard every day to make learning accessible to all of our students.

We have high expectations of the way in which students should conduct themselves. We are consistent in our approach to encouraging good behaviour and the result of this is a culture that is always friendly, orderly and respectful.

Most subjects are taught in mixed ability groups, except Maths, which is divided into sets. Where students need extra help, our teachers coach them in small groups or one-to-one. Special educational needs are catered for with care and expertise.

Those looking to be challenged have plenty of opportunities. Through The Brilliant Club, PhD tutors deliver university-style tutorials to our students. Meanwhile, Harris Experience gives students unique cultural and academic experiences to prepare them for entry to top universities.

As well as striving for academic excellence, we encourage students to find At least one activity or club that they enjoy and can excel in. This encourages self-confidence and social skills.

Working for Harris Federation

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit charity. Led and run by teachers, we established our first school over 25 years ago.

There are now more than 40 happy and highly successful primary and secondary academies in our federation. All of these are in and around London. With each school that has joined us, the expectations we set ourselves have increased.

Every Harris academy so far inspected by Ofsted is rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’, with three quarters of our inspected secondary academies judged ‘outstanding’. Our primary schools are newer, but almost half are ‘outstanding’, with the rest ‘good’.
