Job overview

ISN seeks an Athletics Director who can provide excellent teaching and learning opportunities for Primary, Middle and High School classes in alignment with ISN’s vision and mission, as well as supporting Globeducate events when appropriate for the department. The ideal candidate will have strong athletics skills as well as the ability to further develop the PE department to become a unique selling point of the school.

All teachers at ISN are expected to effectively develop and deliver the curriculum to the highest of standards. 

 The department functions in a collaborative and supportive manner based on mutual respect and understanding. We strive to deliver a dynamic programme at all levels and share best practices in an open and empathetic environment. 

The Athletics Director will also be responsible for setting up the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and the ISN House System.

Teaching responsibilities:

● Plan and prepare learning activities that guide students towards the highest achievement of curriculum objectives

● Inspire and motivate ALL student

● Raise the profile of Sport within both ISN the local community

● Work closely with external providers to enhance the provision at ISN

● Be up to date with current practice

● Use and develop a range of teaching and learning techniques including inquiry based, project based and problem based learning using media consistent with available resources and student needs and capabilities

● Expand the students' use of individual and collaborative strategies to generate concepts and ideas

● Evaluate each student's performance on a continual basis

● Inspiring and developing your team to achieve the highest of standards in teaching and learning

● Prepare evaluative student reports

● Ensure the required standards of classroom management and student behavior are met 

Responsibilities specifically related to student safety and student support:

● Collaborate with the SENCO and the EAL Coordinator to ensure that teachers are aware of students' specific learning needs.

● Ensure that students who meet requirements have inclusive assessment arrangements.

● Ensure all activities are carried out with due regard to health, safety and safeguarding, in accordance with the Safe Guarding and Child Protection Policy.

● Trained in Safeguarding and Duty of Care.

Education and Experience

● Bachelor’s degree in Sports / Athletics

● Qualified teaching status appropriate for grade level and subject area

● Very good working knowledge of the concepts, activities and techniques related to teaching Sports 

● Very good foundation in classroom management

● An understanding of the approaches to teaching that include meaningful feedback, student reflection, and  ATL skills

● Experience with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the House System

● Beginner French level recommended

Teaching information

Teachers at ISN are expected to hold an undergraduates degree in their chosen teaching subject, as well as a proper accredited teaching certification such as a postgraduate diploma, in addition to at least two years’ teaching experience.
