Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for flexible working during school term time. Our team of Cover Supervisors support students in the classroom when teachers are unavailable.

The Role

To provide supervision in the classroom during the short-term absence of a teacher, whilst students undertake work set by the teacher. The primary focus is to maintain behaviour standards and to keep students on task.

Hours of work

As bank Cover Supervisor you will be on a zero hours contract with work offered during term time, depending on operational requirements. You decide when you are available to work. We do ask that you could work a minimum of two days a week on average.

The successful candidate will

  • Be an organised, team player who can work collaboratively
  • Have a commitment to the promotion of the welfare and development of young people
  • Be professional with excellent communication and administration skills
  • Ideally have experience of working with students in a school setting
  • Have an awareness of ways in which the achievement of young people can be supported with the aim improve outcomes

Carshalton High School for Girls, a member of the Girl’s Learning Trust, is a high achieving school in the suburbs of south London. Confirmed as “Good” by Ofsted in January 2023, we achieved our best exam results to date in Summer 2023.

The school is a short walk from Carshalton station with London Victoria is approximately a 30 minute journey by Southern trains and London St Pancras is approximately 45 minutes by Thameslink. The school is also within car and bus commuting range of south London and Surrey.

Carshalton High School for Girls is a highly successful, popular 11 to 18 comprehensive school.  There are 1450 students on roll, over 80 teaching staff and a number of support staff who make a major contribution to the daily smooth running of the school.  Staff work as a cohesive team setting the highest professional standards as an example to the students.  Students enjoy positive and co-operative relationships with staff and it is very rare if an external visitor to the school does not comment on the high calibre of the students and the positive working environment.  We are part of the Girls’ Learning Trust.

Our mission statement clearly states that we are a community where ‘staff and students learn and thrive together’ and we are entirely committed to ensuring staff are given the opportunities and encouragement to develop both personally and professionally.
