Job overview

Vision for Education are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist school in the Newcastle area to recruit a number of behaviour support assistants to provide support to some of their most vulnerable young people. Working 1:1 you will be responsible for developing and extending their learning in school. The young people who access this provision are extremely disengaged with education, so a resilient personality along with an adaptable and calm approach is required.

Because of the vulnerable nature and complications that go along with some of the students, this person must have a good understanding and level of training with regard to safeguarding procedures. Due to start as soon as possible, the role would be on a supply basis working 8.30-4.30 Monday-Friday.

An ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of working with young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties.
  • Driving Licence and their own vehicle.
  • A caring, patient and empathetic nature.
  • Experience of developing and implementing IEPs.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Full working knowledge of relevant polices/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation.
  • Working knowledge of national/foundation stage curriculum and other relevant learning programmes/strategies.
  • Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes.
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these
  • Previous experience of working with children, young people and adults who.
