Job overview

Are you a dedicated Teacher of Drama looking for an inspiring and creative middle leadership opportunity? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

The role

We are looking for an experienced or aspiring middle leader to take on the Course Lead role for our Level 3 BTEC Performing Arts course for a maternity cover period from September 2024 to August 2024. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership of the Level 3 BTEC Performing Arts course.

This role will be suitable for an outstanding classroom teacher who is ready to step up to lead a course, or an experienced middle leader – ideally with experience of teaching BTEC Performing Arts. We are looking for a drama specialist for this role.

What you offer

You will be an excellent teacher in your own right, with the potential to coach and develop those around you. You will be knowledgeable about your subject and able to think creatively about how to inspire KAA students with the curriculum. You will be reflective and resilient in the face of setbacks, and be open to making improvements to your own practice and that of your department.

What KAA offers

Kensington Aldridge Academy is a Performing & Creative Arts (PCA) specialist school. What does this mean in practice? It means PCA is the heartbeat of our academy - a central part of our curriculum and culture that is relevant to all. All our teachers are “specialists” in their subjects – from English to Physics and French to RE. However, we invest heavily in PCA subjects in a way that is uncommon in mainstream secondary schools. We are passionate about PCA and the energy and joy they bring to school life.

All KAA students benefit from the confidence and creativity these subjects develop. For many students, PCA is the defining aspect of their experience at KAA. We offer both A Level Drama and Level 3 BTEC Performing Arts within our drama department at Key Stage 5, with a dedicated Head of Drama (responsible for GCSE Drama and A Level Drama) as well as a BTEC course lead.

The successful candidate will be joining a team that is firmly committed to making KAA one of the best academies in the UK. The value of being part of a great team should never be underestimated. Being a member of KAA means you will be joining a supportive and talented group of staff who will invest in your professional development. This role will be excellent preparation for your future career, wherever that may take you. Further information about the unique benefits and strengths of KAA can be found via our website.

The role is being offered on a fixed term basis from September 2024.

Application process

The deadline for applications is 9am on Monday 13th May. Interviews will take place soon after the deadline and, where possible, candidates may be contacted ahead of the application deadline.

About Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA)

KAA is an 11 – 18 academy situated in the heart of Notting Hill. We opened in brand new buildings in 2014 with just Year 7 and our facilities are second to none. We are now in our ninth year of operation and are a full school with 1,250 students in Years 7 to 13.

KAA has grown to become one of the top academies in the UK. Our Ofsted report grades us outstanding in all categories and describes standards as “exceptional”. In 2018 we were awarded TES Secondary School of the Year, and our 2022 Good Schools Guide review praises the “phenomenal” education students receive.

Why work for KAA?

Making a real difference

KAA pursues the very highest standards in education, both inside the classroom and beyond. We believe all children can achieve good results, irrespective of their prior attainment or experiences. 60% of our students qualify for the Pupil Premium, but with our help they can overcome the barriers that relative poverty can create. Our ethos, spirit and commitment to ever-extending student achievement make KAA an incredible place to work and learn.

Unrivalled professional development

KAA is a high-performing environment where staff at all levels feel challenged and supported to achieve their professional goals. As you will see in our Ofsted report, CPD in our school is of an “exceptional” standard and is an ongoing focus for all staff. There are few better places to develop your skills as a teacher than here with us in Kensington.

Being valued

We invest in our staff and offer unique benefits, including: 180 school days (as opposed to the 190 other schools have); 15 training days (as opposed to 5); free breakfast and lunch for all staff everyday; a two-week half term in October; free staff exercise and well-being sessions, and much more.
