Job overview

The successful applicant for this vacancy will join a large department of six other teachers, educating pupils from Junior 2 (P7) up to Form VI (S6). The department aims to provide pupils with the understanding and skills needed for success in the 21st century business world.

The department offers all four SQA Business Education subjects: Accounting, Business Management and Economics at Advanced Higher and Higher level, and Business Management and Economics at National 5 level, as well as Business Administration and IT at Higher level. Courses are delivered in various aspects of business to all pupils in Forms I and II and there is an Enterprise course for Junior 2 pupils. In addition, the Higher Core Skill award in ICT skills is taught to all Form III pupils. Each year large numbers of pupils choose to study one or more of the business subjects and nearly a third of all pupils go on to study them at university each year. 

The successful applicant should, ideally, have a working knowledge of all four business education subjects and demonstrate a specialist expertise in at least one. Candidates should have a passion and enthusiasm for their specialist subject and a strong commitment to sharing this enthusiasm with pupils, using the latest methods of teaching.  

In addition to running certificate courses, the department actively encourages ‘Enterprise’ and ‘Financial Education’ across the school. As well as supporting pupil involvement in the very popular Young Enterprise Programme, the Student Investor Scheme, the BASE competition and the Shares4schools Investment Competition, other annual events include a ‘Dragons Den’ competition and a Stock Market Challenge for Form II.

The Academy has an extensive co-curricular programme in which all member of staff are expected to participate. There are many boarders on campus and opportunities for members of staff to be involved in this aspect of school life.

The salary for the post will be in accordance with the SNCT main grade scale with the Dollar enhancement of 10% in addition. It should be noted that the Chartered Teachers pay scale does not apply to teachers employed by the Academy.
