St Joseph's Catholic High School is an 11-16 school  with 690 pupils situated in the heart of Workington. We are a relatively small secondary school with a strong community spirit with an excellent reputation.

The school's recent Ofsted was  judged as "Good"  and the school is now on a journey to become  "Outstanding". This is a great opportunity for a person who is innovative, enthusiastic and  highly motivated to  contribute to the strategic direction of the school and work closely with the Headteacher, Jacky Kennedy, to deliver the school's vision.

Applicants should have highly developed leadership skills  and have the ability to deliver on both long term and operational matters around the Budget; Finance; Human Resources; Business Development income generation and Facilities Management. Your past experience  should  demonstrate success in the planning and delivery of budgets as well as managing projects and people.

Ideally you will be highly experienced and ideally qualified in Human Resource Management as the majority of the HR function is carried out in house as well as the school's Payroll.  We do have a service agreement with the County Council HR department for advice on  Employee Relations matters. Much of work that the Business Manager undertakes is in the area of HR. This includes recruitment, selection, induction, staff absence, policies, appraisals and supporting staff  in their well being. Last year, the school carried out restructure of their staff and we now have an extended leadership team and a new pastoral structure.

The Business Manager is very well supported by a very able Finance Administrator and an excellent  team of administrators who work well together. CPD is given a high priority at the school and there is CPD time allocated every Thursday. All staff are given opportunities for CPD and training needs are identified through the appraisal process.

Over the last fifteen years, the Governors has invested in our buildings, through successful bids for funding. We have recently opened our new £1.8 million  Sports facility and pastoral suite. Whilst our buildings are well kept, they are not all ideal for the delivery of our curriculum. We are at an exciting point where we need to plan our next development. Our new post holder will work with the Head teacher and Governors and our Architects to draw up a buildings development plan to ensure St Joseph's continues to renew itself.Applicants will need expertise, drive and enthusiasm to find sources of funding to enable future building development.

Business development and income generation is an important part of the role and experience in this area would be advantageous.

If you do not live in this area then this is a fantastic opportunity to live within, or close to  an area of outstanding beauty where there is a lot to offer, especially for families and those who like the outdoors and getting away from City life. There are good schools in the area and  the price of housing is reasonable. A large proportion of our staff who have come to work in Cumbria have made it their home.  A contribution to relocation expenses may be made under the right circumstances..

If you feel that you would like to be part of the team  and would like a visit to the school or  speak to the Head teacher  Jacky Kennedy or the  Business Manager Sybil Worsley please telephone 01900 873290 or email sw@st-josephs.cumbria.sch.uk

The school is committed to safer recruitment procedures and all applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS.

This is not an equal opportunities school.

Interviews will be held on Friday 23rd February 2018.

About St Joseph's Catholic High School

Why St. Joseph's?

In 1929, St Joseph's Catholic High School was established by parishioners to serve the town of Workington and we are very proud to be continuing to educate students across this area nearly a 100 years later.

We strive to make sure our school is a brilliant place to work for all our staff.  We are a small school and we are proud of our ‘family feel’.  Our mission is to create an environment that brings out the best in our students and staff, year after year.
