We are now recruiting for a Campus Attendance Manager who will be responsible for the attendance of students across our Campus.  You will work to improve school attendance identifying strategies to support the education of students who are persistent absentees to ensure academic progress. You will be liaising with students, families, pastoral support teams and other agencies, analysing data to guide interventions and evaluating their impact. The ideal candidate will have experience working in removing barriers to education, preferably within a school setting or similar establishment

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Attendance

● To be responsible for the attendance of students at both Scott Medical and Healthcare College and Stoke Damerel Community College working with the Senior Leader responsible for attendance.

● Accountable for securing College attendance targets for persistent absentees and children deemed to be missing education (CME).

● Understand the statutory requirements of school attendance and use the systems in place to address poor or persistent absentees, to provide detailed chronologies to support prosecution by the local authority (LA).  

● Identify strategies to support the education of students who are persistent absentees and long-term sick to ensure academic progress.

● To monitor and track data around CME student’s attendance and support identified groups of vulnerable young people to show an improved attendance.  

● To monitor and evaluate attendance and punctuality data so as to review the success of the school policies and initiatives to improve the attendance and punctuality of students.

● Work with the Year teams to support in identifying individuals and/or groups of students who require additional support to improve their levels of attendance and punctuality and assist in raising standards.

● To work with the Year teams and support in the identification of students to enable the implementation of intervention strategies to address poor attendance and celebrate excellent attendance.

● Arrange meetings with parents/carers and other colleagues, to provide relevant information, offer support and seek ways in which the school can help in improving individual attendance and punctuality. Including making and attending appointments during relevant parents’ evenings.

● In cases of poor school attendance, be proactive in assessing the situation and liaising with the appropriate professionals when pupils may need additional support.

● To offer general advice to parents and schools on education attendance matters. Signpost to outside agencies.

● To proactively maintain and develop contacts with other statutory and voluntary agencies.

● To manage and support the work of those with attendance responsibilities, including their maintenance of their own detailed chronologies for their caseload.

● To quality assure the welfare checks by the welfare & attendance practitioners.

● To lead EHAT where appropriate and liaise with a range of health and support agencies with a view to seeking advice and support on behalf of students with specific concerns which may affect their attendance at school.

● To work with the school leadership team, the SENCO, teaching staff and the LA education welfare team ensuring adherence to DfE guidelines regarding CME.

● To contribute to the work of the safeguarding team.

● To liaise with school staff, EWO, Behaviour Support Services, Social Services, Health and Family Support services as appropriate to identify pupils at risk of disaffection and make appropriate referrals.

● To have knowledge and appreciation of the range of activities, courses, opportunities, organisations and individuals that could be drawn upon to provide extra support for pupils and parents.

● To chair regular meetings with the attendance team that includes the attendance administrators, manager, welfare & attendance practitioners and pastoral assistant heads of year.

● To allocate work streams to the attendance team to improve attendance of groups of students.


General

● To refer and support students to engage with study support programmes available.

● Prepare and maintain accurate records/chronologies and logs of support, actions and evidence for audit, inspection and legal purposes. 

● To maintain high standards of confidentiality.

● To carry out administrative tasks associated with all of the above duties.

● To adhere to the safeguarding and child protection policy and procedures, and to raise any concerns relating to such procedures which may be noted in the course of duty.

● To be aware of the key legislation around working with children

● To be aware of and adhere to applicable rules, regulations, legislation and procedures including the schools Equal Opportunities Policy, Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance and Code of Conduct, national legislation (including Health and Safety, Data Protection)

● To undertake other duties appropriate to the grading of the post as required

● To be responsible for keeping up to date with the requirements of the role, by attending appropriate INSET and meetings.
