Are you passionate about guiding students towards fulfilling successful career paths? Oaks Park High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Careers Advisor. As a pivotal member of our school community, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our students.

The Successful candidate will support the implementation of the School's careers plan in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualised Guidance: Conduct one-to-one and small group interviews with students to explore and discuss their career and education aspirations. Listen attentively to their ideas and provide tailored advice.
  • Career Exploration: Ensure students are aware of suitable career routes by researching options and support organizations. Help them identify and consider various choices, outlining possible ways forward.
  • Skills Development: Identify skills gaps among students and collaborate with the Employability Skills Coordinator to create plans for skill enhancement. Promote the Skills Builder initiative to staff, students, and parents.
  • Action Plans: Develop and implement action plans for employment, education, and training. Support students in achieving their goals, providing follow-up to keep them focused.
  • Educational Progress: Be aware of students' learning needs, supporting their educational progress and future career routes. Offer targeted provision and support to students with special educational needs.
  • Resource Management: Manage the careers library, ensuring resources are up-to-date. Provide advice on CVs, applications, job hunting, and interview techniques.
  • Promotion and Engagement: Lead the promotion of the interactive careers Google site, apprenticeship program, and Post-16/19 independent training providers. Build links with external providers, training institutions, businesses, and employers.
  • Event Coordination: Support careers events and maintain the Compass+ tracker to meet Benchmark 3. Propose and monitor school trips and activities linked to careers and employability skills.
  • Compliance and Awards: Manage the school's provider access form, ensuring compliance with policies. Assist the careers team in obtaining external awards, such as the Quality in Careers Standard.

Qualifications:

  • Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance and Development or alternative equivalent 
  • Experience in providing career advice to students.
  • Familiarity with Bromcom and Compass+ systems.
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
