Michaela Community School is an exciting new free school that opened in September 2014. A dynamic and energetic team, our intention is to transform the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. 

Hours

· Monday – Thursday: 6:30am-4:30pm 

· Friday: 6:30am-3:30pm

The Role

· Requires someone who is able to think on their feet and who can quickly learn now to open and lock doors, move chairs and tables, clear up and organise the playground 

· respond to email requests efficiently

· Provide an efficient and effective caretaking service, creating a safe, pleasant environment for staff, students and visitors which supports teaching and learning

· Ensure good communication and working partnership with others

· Support the school community through being aware and responding to the needs of others

· Line manage cleaners

· To be responsible for the building maintenance, cleanliness, security and maintenance of furnishings, fixtures, plant and heavy equipment within the designated School (site) premises.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

· Set up chairs for assembly and tables for break and lunch daily in both halls

· Set up and clear away as required, furniture and equipment for assemblies, examinations, school events

· Remain contactable during all school events via two way radio and mobile phone

· Ensure equipment and furniture is set up and/or cleared away and/or delivered to agreed locations within the site as requested

· Distribute deliveries

  • Carry out minor repairs such as mending broken      windows, changing light bulbs, painting and unblocking drains
  • Make sure the premises is clean and that      rubbish is collected and taken away, and any graffiti is cleaned up
  • Maintain the grounds and remove litter
  • Gardening
  • Store equipment and supplies safely
  • Understand fire safety regulations, Health and      Safety regulations, emergency procedures and the rules for evacuating a      building
  • Be responsible for contractors that come on to the site      and the security of the building
  • Maintain a variety of records and monitoring      meter readings 
  • Arrange for contractors / engineers to come on      site where necessary
  • Locking and unlocking doors at certain times      of the day

     

Skills and personal qualities

The candidate should:

  • be responsible, honest and reliable
  • be practical and good with their hands
  • stay calm in an emergency, for example if      there is a break-in or fire
  • have good verbal communication skills to deal      with children and adults
  • understand safe working practices and health      and safety legislation
  • have some understanding of building      construction and design
  • be able to interpret technical information
  • be well-organised and capable of prioritising      their own work
  • be happy to work on their own and/or capable      of supervising people
  • be flexible and enjoy a varied routine as days      can rarely be planned
  • be reasonably fit
