Job overview

This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for an experienced and enlightened professional who can combine visible, consultative and empathetic leadership with the strategic thinking and ambassadorial skills required to ensure an outstanding educational experience for today’s and tomorrow’s pupils.

Situated in 150 acres of magnificent parkland in North London, The Mill Hill School Foundation is a successful and financially stable family of four leading co-educational schools providing an outstanding educational experience for pupils aged 3-18. Mill Hill School, the Senior School, is one of London's leading co-educational day and boarding schools; Grimsdell Mill Hill Pre-Preparatory School is a day school for pupils aged 3 to 7; Belmont Mill Hill Preparatory School is a day school for pupils aged 7 to 13; and The Mount, Mill Hill International is a co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 13 to 17 from non-English speaking backgrounds which opened in September 2015. There are currently approximately 1,500 pupils attending the schools of the Foundation.

Each school is led by its own Head who has responsibility for the admission of pupils and for the quality of teaching and learning. Traditionally, the Chief Executive of the Foundation has also been the Head of Mill Hill School, but the Court of Governors has now taken the strategic decision to separate the roles, enabling the new Chief Executive to assume responsibility for providing clear direction to the Foundation as a group of schools.

The Chief Executive will line manage and work collaboratively with the four headteachers and a central Foundation team to ensure that each school is highly successful, sharing the benefits of being part of a family of schools.

The Court of Governors is therefore seeking an outstanding leader to continue the development of a Foundation committed to the pursuit of educational excellence in a 21st century context. An inspirational professional with outstanding strategic abilities, the successful candidate will have a substantial track record of achievement in motivating and managing talented and dedicated staff and in bringing about well-researched innovation where appropriate. Warm and consultative, he or she will develop a high-calibre team, and possess the gravitas, business acumen and passion for, and experience of, education to command respect across the community. A genuine resonance with the ethos and values of the Foundation is essential.
