On behalf of the Board of Unity Grammar we invite applications from leaders across Australia and the international community to apply for the position of Chief Executive Officer of Unity Grammar. Since launching the College in January 2008, Unity Grammar College has been committed to providing the finest opportunities for our children.

RATIONALE

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the officer who has ultimate management and leadership responsibility for Unity Grammar College. The CEO reports directly to the Board of Directors and appoints other employees to assist in carrying out the responsibilities of the organisation. The CEO provides strategic leadership. The CEO's leadership role also entails being ultimately responsible for all day-today management decisions and for implementing the college's long and short-term plans. The CEO acts as a direct liaison between the Board, and management and communities. The CEO communicates on behalf of the Board to stakeholders, employees, Government authorities, the communities, and the public. More specifically, the duties and responsibilities of the CEO include, however, are not limited to the following: 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning

  1. Leading in collaboration with the Board, the development and implementation of the College's strategy and vision by developing and implementing business plans, budgets, and strategies
  2. Provide management oversight and responsibility across the College campuses to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the college in line with statutory obligations
  3. Drive the overall growth of the College in line with the strategic vision by implementing change to ensure sustainable improvement outcomes for the College in the development of the Colleges short- and long-term strategy
  4. Work and support the Board of Directors to develop a strategic plan to develop the College with high student performance standards, high staff standards as well as high operational standards
  5. Provide strategic direction and facilitate change processes for sustainable College improvement
  6. Setting up, maintaining, and reviewing organisational structure, systems, policies, processes, and procedures, in order to guide, support, inform, service and monitor the prime functions of the College
  7. Leading, supporting and mentoring executive staff to ensure growth in line with the short and long term objectives of the strategic plan and school improvement plan
  8. Regularly meet and consult with the Board inclusive of the annual general meeting and on sub-committees
  9. Presents regular reports on the status of the College’s operations to the Board of directors encompassing all areas of the School Improvement Plan, Strategic Plan and statutory obligations
  10. Create and sustain a culture of innovation and enablement, underpinned by the Islamic values of the College


People and Culture

  1. Oversee the school’s human capital development by working closely with the executive team to develop effective hiring, training, and compensation, policies, evaluation protocols for teachers and school base employees to attract and retain quality talent
  2. Engage other members of the executive team to facilitate cross-department collaboration to ensure that all departments support the College’s evolving strategy, operational delivery, and data collection needs
  3. Lead the employment and performance processes, to develop staff and build leadership capacity of staff
  4. In all actions, be accountable and employ ethical decision making ensuring student interests and good governance in line with the Colleges Staff Code of Conduct, values, policies and procedures.
  5. Preserve and promote the College’s vision with associated core values, philosophy, and culture through leading by example ensuring a strong community culture in the workplace
  6. Demonstrate the ability to build professional relationships, motivate staff and ensure a positive workplace culture to achieve high staff retention
  7. Actively seek new business and government grant opportunities


Students and Academic Performance

  1. Ensure the College’s Islamic ethos, student and staff wellbeing and achievement are at the forefront of decision-making
  2. Foster a supportive institutional environment so that all students are always treated equitably and fairly in all aspects of their education
  3. Ensure high standards of achievement for students by overseeing college-wide development of better support for student learning and the student experience, including our approach to student support, curriculum renewal, learning and teaching analytics, face-to-face, online and blended learning, and quality assurance.
  4. Build a high performing, safe, supportive, consistent culture and learning environment across the College
  5. Ensure the College has systems in place to achieve educational and regulatory compliance at all governmental levels
  6. Develop academic goals, measurable objectives and performance benchmarks in line with College’s vision and strategy


Budget and Finance

  1. Oversees the Colleges financial structure, ensuring adequate and sound funding for the mission and goals of the school
  2. Provide recommendations for the yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manage the College’s resources within those budget guidelines and the budget mechanisms policy
  3. Work with the Board to set economic objectives as well as financial and accounting objectives, as necessary
  4. Ensure the expenditures of the College are within the authorised annual budget in line with the College’s delegation schedule as well as in line with government funding regulations
  5. Review the financial results of all operations, comparing them with the Colleges objectives and taking appropriate measures to correct unsatisfactory performance and results 


Governance and Compliance

  1. Ensuring that the board is provided with sufficient accurate information on a timely basis in regard to the organisation, its operations, business and affairs, and in particular with respect to the college’s corporate performance, financial condition, operations and prospects, so as to reasonably position the board to fulfil its governance responsibilities.
  2. Maintain awareness of political, governmental, business and industry components of the external environment, on a local, national and international level and ensure, legal, ethical and professional practices and boundaries consistent with the organisation’s Staff code of conduct/values are adhered to.
  3. Assess the principal risks of school with a high priority on safety and to ensure that these risks are being monitored and managed
  4. Ensures the Colleges compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and standards
  5. Ensure effective internal controls and management information systems are in place
  6. Ensure that the College has appropriate systems to enable it to conduct its activities both lawfully and ethically
  7. Abide by specific internally established control systems and authorities, to lead by personal example and encourage all employees to conduct their activities in accordance with all applicable laws and the College’s values, standard, and policies, including its environment, health, and safety policies.
  8. Annually review the Colleges policies and procedures to ensure they in line with government legislation


Communication and Community Relations

  1. Ensure that the school maintains high standards of ethics and social responsibility at all times
  2. Serves as the Colleges representative to the board of directors, shareholders, employees, customers, the government, and the public
  3. Ensure the Directors are properly informed, information is transparent and that sufficient information is provided to the Board to enable the Directors to form appropriate judgments
  4. Ensure the integrity of all public and Board disclosure by the school
  5. Manage the external representation, reputation, image of the school and the overall community networks
  6. Prepare and manage the Annual School Report to the Community


Community Engagement

  1. Establish a clear definition of the brand, mission, values, goals by promoting the college throughout the school year, securing enrolments and new community initiatives
  2. Create and manage a Community Engagement Business Plan to manage the College in a strategic and systematic manner
  3. Establish effective working relationships with staff, students, parents and the wider community and enhance existing client relationships
  4. Manage Community Engagement events in line with the College’s strategic plan
  5. Attend and speak at College community events and external events by maintaining high visibility with students, staff, and parents
  6. Regularly assess, evaluate, and analyze surveys, or obtain feedback from —parents, students, employees, vendors, communities, etc.—as relevant. Conduct the annual community surveys.
  7. Ensure all promotional material and publications are of the highest corporate style guide standards


Marketing

  1. Work with the Board of Directors and appropriate personnel to develop and implement branding and marketing strategy for future development sites
  2. Compile and lead the colleges annual marketing plan and related objectives
  3. Develop the annual strategic digital marketing function with a long-term vision and objectives for the College
  4. Centralising and harmonising marketing and branding activities of the College
  5. Developing a stronger brand portfolio management by aligning strategic marketing vision and goals with the colleges vision
  6. Participate in appropriate business and professional associations, networks and activities relevant to the college’s interests
  7. Monitor and interpret the external environment to continually position the College in its market to best advantage by maintaining high social responsibility
  8. Oversee the design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, products and services. 


Personal Qualities

  1. Excellent managerial and financial skills and the ability to take leadership over any business operations area.
  2. Superlative communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate as a leader
  3. Withhold a thorough understanding of management and financial practices in all areas and phases of business operations
  4. Ability to drive the strategic plan of the College and manage high-profile communication issues for a larger institution and ability to make sound judgments and counsel management in both day to day and highly pressurized circumstances
  5. Display the highest ethical, professional behaviour and standards when working with students, parents and staff
  6. Ability to resolve and manage conflict
  7. Ability to facilitate change in a dynamic, creative environment
  8. Ability to think innovatively and creatively
  9. Display warmth, empathy and good humour 


Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications as assigned by the Board or Board delegate and not otherwise prohibited by law or in conflict with this contract.

Unity Grammar College is an independent co-educational Islamic school catering to students from Kindergarten – Year 12, located in Austral, a south-western suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. The school has 60 teaching staff and 804 students with 95% of those having a language background other than English.

The college was established in 2008 and has expanded significantly in student numbers with a growing local community of parents wanting an Islamic education for their children. Located less than 5 kilometres from Unity Grammar is Malek Fahd Islamic School also catering to students from Kindergarten – Year 12, this school was founded in 1989 and has a current enrolment of over 2,000 students.

Curriculum

Unity Grammar College educates students using the Australian Curriculum within the context of Islamic values and principals. High expectations are demanded of students, who are required to achieve a mark of over 50% for all subjects, with students in Year 10 studying extension maths, English, physics and chemistry, requiring a mark of over 80% if they wish to continue these subjects in senior years. High school students are required to do a minimum of two to four hours of study each night.
